yes it was a bidding war. Almost all major english and spanish clubs bidded for him. Barca initially bidded 40 million but had to increase to 57 to match others bid. Madrid had a final rejected bid of 120 million and neymar's father said that chelsea was the highest bidder. Cant imagine chelsea offerring more than 120 million.

It wasn't 120 mil in transfer fees proposed by Madrid. It was 67 mil in transfer fee and another 55 for his wages... that's where they got the 120 from (which is actually 122).

So if Barca paid 57m and Madrid 67..... then what the hell was Chelsea offering?

As most of the reports were saying they were offering the most money.

Thanks for the information. So that means that we had agreed to pay E40m to get Neymar from the time when he should actually have been available on a free transfer.

Well, according to him he likes to play outside where he has played. That is a red line on the names of PSG, Monaco, City, Chelsea and United.

Which leaves you with Juventus, Barcelona, Madrid and Bayern.

Juventus and Madrid don't really need a CB, they're doing very well in that area and Koscielny wouldn't want to go to a club to play second fiddle.

That leaves Bayern and Barcelona. Sadly for the fans in this section, Barcelona have not been linked with the player even once in the past few years.

Well, at Bayern he has to discuss signings with Sammer, Rummenigge et al.

Apparently Madrid placed a bid for Marquinhos, the 20 year old Roma defender we have been interested in according to websites.

Napoli coach Benitez has sounded out Mascherano on a transfer. Napoli offer a 4-year deal woth 5M a year. Barcelona want 20M [sportmediaset]

If this rumor is true, that would be a great deal!
We can use it to buy a CB like Thiago Silva!

If we sell Mascherano this season, it would be a dream especially for 20m, although that would mean we will need to buy 2 centerbacks, because we all know Tito wont trust Bartra for whatever reason.

My current philosophy about buying central defenders is quite simple - "Something is better than nothing".

Agree, I think we should buy a CB and someone like Abidal who can play as a CB and FB.

Bartra can do the abidal role at right back, we don't need to sign anyone for that if we trust Bartra.

Even Montoya didn't get enough playing time on RB this season. Unless, Alves get a big offer and leave Barcelona.. can't see it happening!

By the way, how much money left from the transfer budget for this summer?
Barcelona mentioned that 50M + sales are available for this summer.
We spent 57M on Neymar (10M already paid last season, the remaining 47M will be paid on 3 years, So about 16M this summer?)

So we still have about 34M, plus sales (Villa = 12, Afellay, Bojan, Fontas, JDS..)?
