The Courtois Issue
It's evident that the board, and us as well, see him as a long term successor to Cech. Now we're facing the end of the second season on loan and would possibly sign on for the third. But reports suggest that Athletico is looking for a permanent deal now which I think Courtois would prefer as well.
He signed a 5 year contract with us and with his performances so far, I doubt he'd sit on the bench. Cech is just 30 and I don't think he's retiring anytime soon.

Re: The Courtois Issue
I honestly don't see a problem, sure Cech could play for another 10 years but whose to say he'll be better than Courtois for them? I honestly think Courtois will become a better goalkeeper very soon and when he does, Cech will have to play second fiddle or be sold. As sad as it will be to see Cech go, he will understand and, I am sure, will know it is eventually coming as he will have watched Courtois.
My personal view is to send Courtois to a mid table EPL side next season, see how he goes and go from there. If at the end of next season, he looks like he is ready, give him the chance in pre season. If he isn't, loan him out to an EPL club again. He knows he has to be patient and will eventually get into the side, hence thee long term deal.
Also, I wouldn't loan him back to Atleti for too much longer otherwise he'll push for a permenant deal.

Re: The Courtois Issue
Sounds like a good idea. Some experience in the EPL would do good for him and us.
I just don't see either him nor Cech settling for a place on the bench
Good call about Atletico. Their fans have become so attached its worrying lol

Re: The Courtois Issue
The thing I forgot to mention, if he doesn't end up becoming better than Cech, we can always sell him off without loss.
It's kind of harsh but I football is a business so I think one will be sold in the coming years.

Re: The Courtois Issue
I would get him out of Atletico as soon as possible. Do NOT loan him back there for another season, as I sense he's getting too attached. As Kick said, loan him to a PL club if possible. One possible destination could be Swansea. Brendan Rodgers is clearly not happy with Reina, and there's reports he could be looking to move him on/out in the summer, and if he does do, it's certainly possible he could be going for Vorm - his own former player whom he signed himself - as his replacement (not to mention the possibility of other clubs around England and Europe wanting him). If we can move in early enough, that could be a possible destination for him. Many other as well, I'm sure.

Re: The Courtois Issue
yeah need to get him out of there, possibly an EPL club. I'm pretty sure that he will be the first choice GK of many clubs below top 7.
Re: The Courtois Issue
I would send to somewhere he would get a lot of practice. A relegation club for instance.
Although Fullham would be a decent choice as Schwarzer looks like he is ready to give up so they need someone new.

Re: The Courtois Issue
Thibaut Courtois believes that Chelsea intend to keep Petr Cech as their number 1 goalkeeper for another two years.
The Belgian shot-stopper is currently on loan from Chelsea with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and has been earmarked to replace Cech between the sticks at Stamford Bridge when the time comes for a changing of the guard.
It is Courtois second successive season at the Vicente Calderon and he has hugely impressed in Spain, so much so that the Belgian himself even feels that the speed of his progression has shocked the powers that be at Chelsea.
"I’ve progressed quickly", he told Belgian broadcaster RTBF.
"And I think that Chelsea did not expect that I would have reached this level; not so quickly anyway."
And the former Genk man feels that current Blues first choice Cech probably has another two years of being the club’s starting goalkeeper, by which time the road could have opened up for himself.
"I think they will still rely on Petr Cech for two years", he said.
"He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world."

Re: The Courtois Issue
I fully expect him to be a Chelsea legend within 10 years
I hope he goes to Fulham on loan next season, makes sense close by and Fulham need a keeper. Although no European football for them or Thibaut .

Re: The Courtois Issue
European football doesn't bother me, he has played a lot of it this season and last, albeit in the EL but he has some experience in it, what he doesn't have is EPL experience. That is more important to us anyway.

Re: The Courtois Issue
Vorm is really good then they have Tremmell who is surprisingly very capable. He should go to a team that has an aging keeper like Fulham or Westham, heck he would even start at Liverpool or Arsenal but I don't like the idea of giving them such a GOAT keeper on loan.

Re: The Courtois Issue
Fullham would be my choice, close to us so he won't have to move when he returns to us, could get to know our players better, sooner. Get use to living in London, the culture and what not.
The only downside is they are such a big rival.

Atletico keeper Courtois hopes for loan extension:
http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/197175.html
AS also apparently reporting the 2 clubs either are close to agreeing or have already agreed in principle to an extra year on loan.

Re: The Courtois Issue
As much as it's great him being with Atlei I'd prefer he returns to the PL next season so he can adjust to the league before we take him on. He'd be first pick at the majority of PL clubs imo, i'd love it if he went to a lower midtable team so he still got tested plenty.

Re: The Courtois Issue
If, during the summer, a club like Milan or Barca comes enquiring about Cech, how much would you sell Cech for?
£10-£15m probably for me.

Re: The Courtois Issue
You would let Cech and Courtois dog fight it out for No.1?
As much as I love Cech, hes still got 10 years in him, I don't want him sitting on the bench for it, I'd much rather sell him.

Re: The Courtois Issue
He won't be. Courtois will remain on loan for several seasons more I reckon. Cech to remain as #1 as he's still world class and really one of the pillars of this side.Kick wrote:You would let Cech and Courtois dog fight it out for No.1?

Re: The Courtois Issue
So you would reget all offers for Cech?
Even though this summer could be the best chance to sell him? All of Arsenal, Liverpool, Milan Barca could well be looking for new GK's.

He won't be on the market and no one will be putting in any offers for him. Just signed a new 4 year contract not long ago too.Kick wrote:So you would reget all offers for Cech?
