Sky Sports understands that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal check on Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, and is now considering a bid for African ace.

Wanyama has been one of the stars of the season and has played a huge part in Celtic's progression beyond the Champions League group stages.

The Scottish champions have been trying to tie him down to a new deal but, with no agreement on the horizon, a host of England's top clubs have been tracking his progress.

Now, after receiving glowing reports from his scouts, including his brother Martin - his chief scout - Ferguson took the chance to watch him in action against Dundee United and Wanyama impressed by scoring in a 4-0 win.

Now United are believed to be one of a number of clubs who could yet make a late swoop for Wanyama, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool all believed to be keeping close tabs on him although it is understood a move for the Celtic ace would need to be made by the weekend.

However, Sky Sports understands that, because Wanyama is Kenyan, his work permit, which is more than likely to be granted, would need to go to appeal as his country are ranked outside the world's top 70, which is a criteria set in the UK.

So, in order to finalise a deal for Wanyama, a bid would need to be made prior to next Thursday's deadline and most likely by the weekend to give the process enough time to be completed.

Sky Sports understands a number of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Paris Saint Germain starlet Adrien Rabiot.

The 17-year-old midfielder has already made his senior debut for PSG as he was promoted to the first-team squad by coach Carlo Ancelotti this summer.

The player's progress has not gone unnoticed across the Channel, and it is believed a number of clubs are keeping tabs on his situation.

The French Under-19 international is understood to be keen to secure more first-team football and that could be available to him England - whether that be on loan or a permanent deal.

Sky Sports understands that Bolton Wanderers winger Chung-yong Lee may well be the subject of a formal offer from at least one Premier League club before the transfer window closes.

Chung-yong is back to fitness for Bolton this season after being restricted to just two appearances last term due to a broken leg.

The South Korean had been one of Bolton's most consistent performers after arriving at the Reebok Stadium in 2009 and he has regularly been linked with other clubs.

It is understood that manager Dougie Freedman's resolve to keep the 24-year-old could be tested before next Thursday's transfer deadline.

Basically wants a cowards way out, won't hand in a transfer request, won't pay up, trying to use his father to force a move, staying quiet allowing rumours to build. Couldn't have played this any worse. This isn't a guy who should be our captain, I'd strip him immediately.

I'd also question the validity of his so called personal problems.....

We should sue him for breach of contract and take up actions against San Lorenzo for tapping him up.

Lost all respect for him if this is true.

Italy’s Sky Sports has reported linked Arsenal with a move for Hellas Verona’s Brazilian-born midfielder Jorginho.

Luciano Spalletti’s Zenit St Petersburg have reportedly made a proposal for AC Milan’s Ignazio Abate, fuelling speculation the Rossoneri will use the cash to finally snap up Balotelli.

According to Abate’s agent, Milan are willing to negotiate with Zenit if the right offer were to come, as Milan need the cash to finally snap up Super Mario.

“We thank Zenit and Spalletti for their interest, but the lad will remain in Italy with Milan,” agent Claudio Pasqualin told reporters.

“If Zenit raise their offer, then maybe something will change, considering Milan are looking for cash to take Mario Balotelli.”

Spalletti is known to be a keen admirer of Abate, it was reported Milan wanted to get rid of the fullback as well as Robinho to balance the wage bill at the club, and use the funds to sign the enigmatic Balotelli.

Alfred, the article doesn't claim that Coloccini is going to play in Argentina, just that he's planning to go there anyway.

And I think Coloccini can leave without sanctions if he "retires". He cannot sign for another club as long as he's in contract with Newcastle, but I believe he can stop playing and stop getting paid, effectively retire from the game.
