Still doesn't beat this
Carroll, Downing, Adam, Robbie Keane, N'Gog, Aquilani, Konchesky, Poulsen, Dossena, Cavalieri, Itandje, Leto, Pennant, Paletta, Morientes, Josemi, Nunez, Le Tallec, Pongolle, Diouf, Salif Diao
That's £156.7m paid for those scrubs.

Porto signed Falcao, Pepe, Lisandro, Lucho, Hulk, Bruno Alves, Bosingwa, Guarin, Deco, Carvalho, Anderson, Raul Marieles, Paulo ferreira, Quaresma and Alvero Periera for something like 53m and went on to sell them for 372.
Not exact figures, but you get the picture.
While doing so they have won 1 CL, 1 UEFA cup, 1 Europa league, 1 Super cup and 1 club world cup....more than Ligue 1 and the Bundisliga combined so I read.

big clubs should really be going after whoever is in charge of transfers at Porto, those are some amazing figures, and theyve done it all whilst being a force on the field

Re: What some clubs have spent on transfers in the last 10 years
The thing is that competition is so meh other than the top 3 or 4 in Portugal, Porto can afford to sign kids and bring them along... they still have a 90% chance of making CL. There is also little pressure to win CL every year.
You need to look at a club's short term ambitions. When you consider that, the transfer numbers make total sense.
Not to say Porto isn't a fantastic club and have done exceedingly well. Just saying that they're in an environment that allows them to take certain risks...

sports is right to a degree but no reason why they couldn't do it in say La liga even if they only did it to a lesser extent.

Pinto da Costa. Been with Porto since his late teens and is now 74 years old. Was in charge of the the amatuer sections in 69', as director of football in 80' left after massive club wide problems and returned in 82 as president and been there ever since...fat chance of getting him.
Sport is right, they are more free to take risks because they can always be up there. But at the same time, every year they have a strong team regardless of who they sell and its proven in the way they compete on the CL stage, or at least the Europa.
Even I assumed this year would be a down year for Porto, but they are fresh off beating PSG so its going well to this point in terms of level.
I think the key is they never actually sell players untill they have someone ready to take his position, very rarely are they left stuck.
Every player sold that I named, apart from a gap between Lisandro sale and Falcao arrival and the first sale of Lucho, there has always been someone ready to replace the player.

Yup, make sure you have a replacement already in the squad before you sell. It sounds simple but it isn't really followed correctly for some reason lol

Not surprised Bayern is up that high considering they don't actually sell players.

The owners of City or someone should just buy Porto and use them as a development squad.
Kind of like what the Pozzo family are doing with Udinese Watford and that Spanish team.
