Catalan independence process
m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19564640?
Proud to have been there!
Rosell finally went there but not representing our club.
IMO the path to independence is unstoppable.
What league would you like Barcelona to play?
continue in the Spanish? new Iberian league? go to league 1 or Italy?

Re: Catalan independence process
I think Barca/Espanyol should remain in Spain, wouldn't be Barca without the games against Real Madrid. However, if some sort of Iberian league could be arranged (which I doubt), I'd be for that as well.

Re: Catalan independence process
Stay Spanish or like BC an Iberian League could be nice.
Independence should not necessarily have any impact on football.

Re: Catalan independence process
lol barca joining another league would mean death of la liga... real madrid would win every title, except if extreme radical tv revenue distribution is in place which would give every team exact same amount of money

Re: Catalan independence process
it all comes down to money, if they do eventually become independent the club will probably opt to stay in la liga because of the money they get from the tv rights.
not to seem like i know all the facts but from a revenue standpoint barca need real and real need barca. the competition between these 2 clubs is one of the longest and most bitter rivalries of all time and this draws more attention than any other rivalry (from a tv viewing/advertisement perspective)
id assume barca would make more money continuing in la liga than being in a new iberian league.

Re: Catalan independence process
Yeah, I agree with your views that independence wouldn't necessarily influence football and that everyone could be interested in keeping the Spanish League. A change of name should then be needed.
But it is also possible that Spain tries to kick us out as a revenge, you never know.

Guys, perhaps I am out of touch with the happenings in the Spain and Catalonia, but i would not hurry and separate Catalonia yet. If it happens, it is going to take some time. Spain would not let a chunk of rich land separate so easily, especially with the bad economy.

We've been pretty much demanding independence for more than 70 years, so we are not really going too fast.

Re: Catalan independence process
Negotiating TV deals becomes more difficult if you are light years ahead of every other team in your league.
Both Madrid and Barcelona would suffer if a split were to happen.

Staying in La Liga is best, 2nd to that is the Iberian idea. That would be quite intresting.

Re: Catalan independence process
who exactly would be in the iberian league? would it just be the top teams from portugal and spain and the rest would just buzz off? would kinda defeat the purpose of leaving la liga.

Re: Catalan independence process
I duno, seeing as it isnt something that exists there isnt any way it has to be.
I just think the idea of having Braga, Sporting, Porto and Benfica in the same league as Barca, Madrid, Atletico, Valencia, Sevilla and some others is very intresting.

Re: Catalan independence process
So some teams from La Liga would be relegated or would the league allow more than 20 teams?

Re: Catalan independence process
If there were a Catalonia only league, who would be the 20 teams in it? Can some one make the list? Unless they managed to raise cash to spread out, Barca and Espanyol would rape the league. Same with Madrid raping La Liga.
Would be cool if they did split up in 2, but the Copa del Rey stayed as is with both leagues participating.

Re: Catalan independence process
Iberian League would make it top 20 teams from both I guess... which would be an amazingly good league... but it would mean many teams would decline because they would not be able to get in to Europe, and others would not even be able to get into the top flight.
You'd have awesome teams like Porto, Valencia, Atleti, Benfica all struggling to even get into Europe which is just weird.
Teams like Getafe etc. would be fighting to stay alive.
A Catalan league would be the biggest fail of all time... Third best team would be, who... Girona? Wow... Actually it'd be Barca B lol.

Re: Catalan independence process
I'm going to go ahead and say there's a 1 % chance max that Cataluna gets independence, not because that Spain desperately wants to hang on to he territory, but because the potential domino effect is far too risky.
Politically it would just be incredibly stupid.
Catalunyan league would be foolish.
If UEFA was willing to grant Iberian League more CL and Europa spots I wouldn't mind but as someone mentioned, terrible idea as many clubs will suffer.

Re: Catalan independence process
The whole thing would be difficult as said... Would Valencian community be integrated etc?
League would never happen but maybe NT would change.
Thiago is an interesting one because he's as Catalan as he is Spanish... (which is not very much lol) I don't think it'd be an easy decision, in fact I reckon he'd choose Brazil if presented with the decision.
Promising young guys like Ruiz, Amat, Didac, Tejera, Alvaro as well as Barca boys like Deulofeu etc. are all Catalan so I'm sure the team would be excellent.
It could be something like this: (note! in a couple of years)
