3 Catalan Teams in Primera Liga?

With 54 points and 3rd in Segunda, Girona are in with an excellent chance to be promoted to the top flight next season. They currently sit in a play-off position but only trail Alorcon by 1 point.

This would mean Barca, Espanyol and Girona all in La Liga in 2013/14.

The last time 3 Catalan teams played in La Liga was in 2006/07 when Nastic joined the regular big two. Before that you have to go back to 1987/88 when Sabadell were in the top flight. (edited)

A huge success for Catalan football and shows the improvement in quality there. Barca B currently sit in 8th 5 points off the playoff zone and Sabadell in 11th, 8 points off the playoff zone (certainly not an impossible gap to close).

Girona, by the way, have never been in La Liga before and so it would be a huge achievement for them, and the key man behind their success has been Benja Martinez who left Barca B in 2011 and currently has 11 goals in 16 games.

Wait, what about Gimnastic? They only were relegated a few years ago unless I'm missing something.

Damn... you're right. I spent a while looking through all the leagues and clubs... and even scoured Nastic's record, but I missed that one...

Lleida also was in Primera around 1995, but for some reason we are never able to consolidate more than 2 Catalan clubs in Primera.

It's probably because in Catalonia barça is almost a dictatorship in terms of fan support and interest. Only Espanyol and Real Madrid have an important following us aside.

I'd personally rather Alcorcon get the automatic slot than Girona. The lulz that would ensue the following season

Don't forget Sabadell. They were also in Primera many years ago.

I so much want for Girona to come to the first league. I have visited the town once and liked it so much. For this reason I always have a career in Fifa with Girona team

4 years was a long time and the reason why it was because my dad was given a job and he extended his contract for a bit so my exchange went for longer... Tbh, I spoke Catalan better than Spanish but being a year since being there both languages are starting to become very unclear to me. Struggling to make a few sentences to my fellow mates over there.
