Who will take the elections?
Re: Let the campaign begin!
Also a quote I enjoy very much:
"Everyone's a libertarian until their house is 10 feet under water"

Re: Let the campaign begin!
@ Yuri- FDR was a fantastic president, I don't see any reason not to idolize him, or have anyone else do the same. I hold him in high regards, as many do...most people have him as a top 3 president next to Washington and Lincoln, as I do.
And there's nothing wrong with socialism, it's a perfectly acceptable system. I don't idolize it, but there is no reason for me to have negative feelings associated with it, that's absurd. Yes the area implementing socialism needs to fit certain criteria or it won't work, and yes I prefer capitalism, but there is nothing wrong with those statistics.
Agreed.

Re: Let the campaign begin!
AWww come on, even discussing vaguely social-democratic policies has become impossible in America because of the post-Reagan McCarthyism that is present in all public debates.
You want to give blankets to the homeless? And tomorrow we'll all be eating borschtsch in the gulags, becuase that's what you want, isn't it?!

The thing is that in order to govern they would have to come a lot more towards the center, so their most extreme positions would quickly get eroded. Anyways, I don't agree with them on a number of issues either, but I think given the low impact of your vote you might as well show support for the formation of a viable 3rd party.

I'd be quite happy to see a third party arise... but not necessarily a Libertarian party.

Re: Let the campaign begin!
If you want to live, get a social-democratic party. Those are neat. They should also probably be at least a bit green.
Just get a green party, they're usually socially liberal and fiscally social-democratic anyway. But one of the mainstreamy ones, with the proper policies, not one of those ragtag bands of hippies and vegans.

Re: Let the campaign begin!
Okay, get an electoral system where seats in parliament are actually proportional to the amount of votes received (iE make the popular vote count), the third party will probably come by itself.

This is still clearly up in the air (obviously) but you can hear the sweet sweet combination of shock and fear starting to creep into the voices of the FoxNews pundits...
It is absolutely beautiful.

Re: Let the campaign begin!
Here's basically where we're at: Not all of these states have actually been called yet, most of the West Coast's polls haven't even closed, but we can be reasonably sure based on history and pre-election polls that nothing "game-changing" is likely to happen there, so the election has basically already been reduced to the swing states.
So here's the map:
In terms of popular vote and even the electoral vote CURRENTLY, Mitt Romney would appear to be in good shape since they are basically even..... However, the problem for the Republicans is that as things stand, Romney has to win ALL of OH, VA, NC, FL, and one of Iowa/Colorado
If Obama wins ONE of OH/NC/VA/FL....this election is effectively over
There was a lot of talk before the election by a number of prominent Republicans of Romney stealing a state like Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Wisconsin (historically Democratic States) which would've given him a very big chance of nicking the election...But those states were all called VERY early for the Dems

Re: Let the campaign begin!
I want to re-iterate: This election is not yet over, its just that Mitt Romney has to basically SWEEP whats left to win...He has to win ALL of OH/VA/NC/FL, and ONE of IA/CO
Also: Not reflected on my map but some channels are either calling or assuming NV for O and the Dems
Edit: Also, the Republicans are getting CRUUUUUSHED in the Senate Races
Brown from Massachusetts...Lost - Not a huge surprise since MA so Liberal
Akin from Missouri (Conserv State)...Lost - AKA the "Women's bodies can shut down pregnancies from 'legitimate' rape" ...guy
Mourdock from Indiana (Conserv State)....Lost - AKA the "If women get pregnant from rape its because God intended it" ...guy

Re: Let the campaign begin!
That's my point. With Obama winning Florida, as my gut predicts, the thing is basically done and dusted. Romney isn't landsliding all of OH/VA/NC/IA/CO.
He'll probably narrowly take Colorado and VA, that's it.

Not just basically...If Obama wins FL the election is LITERALLY over...
Even if Florida goes to Romney, all O needs is one of OH/VA/NC, and one of IA/NV/CO

Re: Let the campaign begin!
NBC has called Iowa for Obama
Denver Post has called Colorado for Obama
Based on this, if NV goes Obama....the election is over
NBC has called North Carolina for Romney, which provides him with some protection from an absolute landslide but doesn't effect Obama's outlook much

Re: Let the campaign begin!
OHIO CALLED FOR OBAMA!!!!!!
This could definitely turn into a rout.
300+ Electoral Votes are well within reach...all he needs is one of Florida or Virginia
