Lol REWB.

Actually I have another question.

Why are people assuming Cazorla will instantly make an impact? Wouldn't he also need time to settle in and get used to PL style and pace, coming from a technical league?

Gervinho, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Podolski, Giroud - all need(ed) this settling period, sometimes it takes a season or more. Sometimes the player never manages to settle.

The only recent signing who made an immediate impact was Chamakh, and we all know what happen since Razz

I daresay Cazorla is a cut above all those mentioned bar Podolski. I just think he'll be perfect for our style of play and since he's been playing in La Liga for a Champions League team and he's the exact model of player we need that he'll settle in, not seamlessly but I think he will, like Mata did with Chelsea although Cazorla is better.

This. Cazorlas on a different level than most of those guys. Mata, Silva are better comparisons and they both made instant impacts.

Rosicky and Diaby are two very different players to Sahin. By mentioning them in the same sentence, I'm not comparing their quality, but merely listing them as available options.

Of course, Sahin is a better player but think about the roles they play in midfield and what makes a good, balanced midfield.

Song, Sahin and Arteta looks great on paper. It would arguably be our three best midfielders and they can keep the ball all day. But is it balanced? I don't think it is. There's no one there who can carry the ball forward into advanced positions. There's no one there who will make frequent forward runs in support of the forwards. That's what Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey and Cazorla, if he signs, does. They play higher up the pitch, helped by the protection offered by the deeper lying midfielders.

Going by this logic, it'd have to be Sahin or Arteta or, if fit, Wilshere, and therein lies the long term issue that comes with having Sahin permanently. Three very good players, who play the same role, all needing to play frequently. What do you do then?

I'm sure the likely answer to that scenario is to get rid of Arteta, but, again, that presents the problem of having a player approaching his prime and a fantastic young talent vying for the same spot in the team.

It's for these reasons that I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't have an option to buy if we loaned Sahin. I'm not opposed to the idea outright, but I just see it as a bit excessive. Competition, or "survival of the fittest" is great and all, but you don't need nine midfielders for three midfield spots to accomplish that.

The rumours that Wilshere is out until November tie in with the fact Wenger wants Sahin, of course. Particularly with Diaby & Rosicky injury records and Frimpong's second long-term injury.

If possible (and if fit), to start the campaign against Sunderland with:

Arteta Song

subs: Sahin Diaby

in terms of cms, would be great and what I think Wenger wants.

(If you're wondering who'll play in CAM against Sunderland, my bet is Cazorla, obviously.

“Forget Barcelona, Arsenal is the best club. Arsenal have given me everything and I love this place. If I had to leave I would break down and cry.” -Alex Song quote from a couple years ago.

Wouldn't make sense for him to go unless the club decided to sell him. He's being groomed into a killer in the midfield with his passing range and unless he's not extending his contract or something, there's no reason to sell him, especially not this summer, this kind of talk would be reserved for next summer.

sina Very Happy
I understand both parties when it comes to the Sahin transfer.
The buy-out option should be in there somewhere in my opinion.
I mean with the probable sale of RVP, signing two proven players might just be the best thing to lift the morale of our players.
We all respect the players who represent our beloved club, but I just feel that this signing( and Cazorla's) will kick some our players in their backsides' and show them that getting on the team sheet is not as easy as it used to be, and you need to work hard to earn your place.
Just my 2 cents Smile

I agree Rev.

It should be noted, we want a POSSIBILITY to buy, we aren't forcing our hand or that of Real Madrid. We want to play safe and be prepared for eventualities that may arise.

I think Real Madrid want to play it safe as well, by not giving an option which would see them miss out on a very good player. Now its a matter of finding a compromise.

And my customary bit : I don't believe these rumours till Sahin is announced on our website.

Spanish media saying that Cazorla is on his way to London right now ahead of a medical later today.

Arsenal aren't happy because Cazorla has missed the previous 58 medicals.

Wait, did I miss something here?

Also, RG, that team you posted is defensively not balanced - 2 DLPs and no DM? Much to learn defensively, Jack Wilshere has. Also, not doubting Podolski, but that attack won't score 8. We know Arsenal makes strikers fall in love with goal posts.

Arsenal 5th Team, when our massive injury crisis comes again:

Mannone
Eastmond - Bartley - Yennaris - Bellerin
Aneke - Frimpong
Ju Young - Olsson - Lansbury
Afobe

Should be able to beat ManUtd 6-0 at OldT with a Ju Young hat-trick. Come at me. :coffee:

Welcome Rev.. bounce
Me too thinks its important to have that buyback clause if we are signing him.. Benayoun is a 30yr old.. This guy is just 23 with lots of potential.. Different cases..
I dont know why many believe he is surplus to the squad.. Just read about Wilsheres new setback.. And Rosicky and Diabys chronic injury problems.. Yeah it will be a blow for the youth.. But dont want us running out of options like last season putting faith again n again in Ramsey.. It will make players fight for their places..But if the clause is the only thing stopping the signing forget about it and sign him.. He will be more important for us in this season.. the only thing of concern may be our wagebill.. But these days i dont think in that aspect...

I think people don't get that Real Madrid DON'T want to include the buy-out option that's why the deal still didn't happen. I wouldn't want to lose Sahin for a year and the opportunity to not rush Wilshere into the first-team just because of that.

And it's finally on BBC:

----------------------

Arsenal hopeful of Santi Cazorla & Nuri Sahin deals

Arsenal are working on deals to sign Santi Cazorla from Malaga permanently and fellow midfielder Nuri Sahin on loan from Real Madrid.

The transfer of Cazorla, a 27-year-old Spain international, is complicated by Malaga's financial problems and a possible takeover of the club.

Turkey international Sahin, 23, will join on a season-long basis if the player and clubs reach an agreement.

Arsenal hope both deals can be sealed before the new campaign gets under way.

The Gunners start at home to Sunderland on 18 August.

They have already signed Germany forward Lukas Podolski from Cologne and France striker Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.

But doubts remain over the future of captain Robin van Persie, who has said he will not extend his current contract which expires in 2013.

The pursuit of Cazorla and Sahin is unrelated to Van Persie but has been accelerated by news that Jack Wilshere will not play before October as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Cazorla, who joined Malaga from Villarreal last summer, stands at 5ft 6ins and featured for Spain at the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

Real Madrid signed Sahin from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year contract in May 2011 but he has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeu and Real boss Jose Mourinho would let him leave on loan.
