John Obi Mikel
The man needs his own thread. Drogba, Ramires, Mata, and Lampard have all been credited for our turnaround but no one is giving the rock of the team any credit.
He is the best DM in PL right now, so bow down to John Obi Mikelele

If he had the passing skills of Song, then he would be a GOAT in not time.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Glad im not the only one.. he is average for a top team but would be a good player in Italy hence few Italian teams after him.
He still cant create a pass from nothing or move the ball quick and sharp plus never scores plus when he tackles he gives easy freekicks away. Yes he has performed before and pulls it off now and then but needs to be replaced by a big explosive DM/CM like Fellaini/Martinez or Mvilla.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Like I said, if he had better playmaking skills, like Song at least, then he'd be a lot more valuable. Instead we have Lamps doing that.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Come on he is below average for Chelsea now same with Essien. We need creativity, scorers all around, pace and strength (which they kinda had few years ago).

Re: John Obi Mikel
Ignore the OP's rock of the team stuff because thats just /fellowblackmangoogles. Or he's Nigerian too either way ridiculous statement.
Lampard is the one of the pair shining in the double pivot, I don't want him out but he's replacable. He in pretty decent form at the minute anyone else aside from Lampard is either rusty (Romeu, could put Essien here) or crap in pivot (Raul, could also put Essien here too).
Fellaini would be a good shout too, having a DM like Mikel in a double pivot is such a waste we need a midfield general someone with some passing acumen. He can improve though, but I have my doubts for sure.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Beside Soul everyone else is missing the point of this thread. This is the "John Obi Mikel appreciation thread" not the opportunity to criticize Mikel thread.
Nothing to do with the DM position or midfield for that matter. Improving the wide players will do that.
He is a DM not a play-maker. Fellaini and Martinez are both CM's, they are players that would benefit from playing along Mikel. As a DM he is better then both. You criticize his passing, but in fact his passing accuracy is among the best in the PL.
Quite ridiculous, accusing someone of being black and Nigerian for stating the obvious. He is quality player and everyone with football knowledge would rate Mikel fine.
I am white btw, and i don't rate players based on their skin colors. Something you should take note of. I am not even going to bother with you any more, i see you are a troll with no game.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Yes wide players would do that, fair enough. But if the DM can draw more midfielders towards him while he holds the ball it would create space for Mata and then he can mount a decent challenge on the CB's. Which would create scoring chances for Torres or whoever is infront.
Re: John Obi Mikel
Good skill
He has been fantastic so far this season has benefited greatly with our 3 maestro in front of him, best holding midfielder in the PL?
#Inb4Yaya-he is a B2B midfielder.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Needs more praise imo.
We are so quick to criticise him(me included) when he makes an error but is simply solid for multiple games and barley anybody notices.
If he manages to erase the amount of errors from his game then he'll be a top top holding mid. He has the strength, tackling ablity, his passing has improved(imo) and overall I think he's becoming a better player.
I have to say I much prefer Mikel/Rami to Mikel/Lampard, that simply doesn't seem to work as well.

absolutely agreed with everything.
His passing has gotten so much quicker slowing down our tempo has always been his biggest criticism, he is not holding on the ball as often. That is credit to our new style and players. Mata, Hazard, and Oscar are always available passing options, so he doesn't hold on to the ball that much.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Ramires and Mikel are really solid. If Mikel could continue to improve his passing we won't need to improve there.
Mikel has been on fire this season too.

Re: John Obi Mikel
Been really really really good this season, tbh i cant think of any significant errors that have come from him this season (JT is way more at fault vs Juve then Mikel) and there hasnt been in any games this far where hes just been anonymous and passed backwards or square 90% of the time
hopefuly he can keep it up

Slowly improving a little I guess, still gives the ball away way too much though.
