Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
Liverpool v Arsenal, Saturday 3rd March, 12.45pm, Anfield, Premier League, Sky Sports 2
Arsenal celebrate their fifth goal against Spurs last weekend
Premier League
1. Man City 63pts
2. Man Utd 61pts
3. Spurs 53pts
4. Arsenal 46pts
-----------------
5. Chelsea 46pts
6. Newcastle 43pts
7. Liverpool 39pts
Arsenal destroy Spurs in landslide win
At 2-0 down, the gooners in the crowd, Arsene Wenger and his players must have wished the ground would have swallowed them up, so they could hide their faces. Arsenal came into the game on the back of a disastrous few weeks - the heavy defeat in Milan, the dismal cup exit at Sunderland - but losing to the 'enemy' - as Bacary Sagna put it - would have been a new low. It was Sagna himself who started the comeback with a superb header, before goals from Van Persie, Rosicky and Walcott (2) wrapped up the victory. Wenger hailed the performance as "exceptional".
Liverpool buoyed by League cup success
Kenny Dalglish won his first piece of silverware last week, since returning to Anfield - the league cup. The penalty shoot-out win against Cardiff ended the club's 6-year wait for a trophy, and Liverpool will hope this victory inspires the club in the race for Champions League football. Liverpool currently sit 7 points behind 4th-place Arsenal, with a game in hand.
Match Facts
* Six of the last nine Premier League games between Liverpool and Arsenal have ended as draws.
* There have been six 90th minute or later goals scored in the last six league matches between Liverpool and Arsenal.
* If Arsenal avoid defeat, it will be the first time they have gone five consecutive league games without a loss away at Anfield.
* This is Liverpool’ joint-worst tally of points after 12 home matches of a season in the Premier League era (20).
* Arsenal have kept just three clean sheets in their last 20 Premier League away matches.
* The Reds have the worst chance conversion rate of any team in the Premier League, scoring with just 8.6% of shots.
Players to watch
Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal)
The Czech playmaker had arguably his best ever game for Arsenal for last weekend in the win against Spurs. Inspirational in the midfield, making tackles, pulling the strings, scoring, making key passes and popping up all over the pitch, the 31-year old really was brilliant. Should he pass a fitness test to play at Anfield, Rosicky will be asked to be Arsenal's creative spark once more, supported by Arteta & Song who, themselves, had great games last Sunday.
Charlie Adam (Liverpool)
The Scottish midfielder is likely to have extra responsibility on Saturday, with the news that Steven Gerrard will probably miss out through injury. Adam has had an adequate season, but has disappointed a lot of fans with his audacious passes. His penalty miss in the league cup final didn't exactly bring him closer to the fans, but against Arteta & Song, he will be asked to try and win the midfield battle.
Team News
Arsenal
Jack Wilshere (ankle), Andre Santos (ankle), Aaron Ramsey (ankle), Johan Djourou (thigh), Francis Coquelin (hamstring), Emmanuel Frimpong (knee), Per Mertesacker (ankle) and Sebastien Squillaci (groin) are all unavailable.
Robin van Persie (groin) and Thomas Vermaelen (ankle) are both doubtful, but Tomas Rosicky (groin) is fit, and Abou Diaby (hamstring) is in the squad for the first time in over 3 months.
Liverpool
Lucas Leiva (knee) and Daniel Agger (rib) are both unavailable, whilst Steven Gerrard (hamstring) is a major doubt. Glen Johnson (hamstring) is expected to be fit.
Arsenal subs - Fabianski Miquel Jenkinson Diaby Chamberlain Gervinho Chamakh
Liverpool subs - Doni Coates Kelly Maxi Shelvey Downing Carroll
Manager's pre-match views
Arsene Wenger
“I felt that for a long time we had to play players out of position and when we go into crucial games that is not ideal. You play a right-back in the right-back position, and a left-back in the left-back position and it gives you a natural balance. So far we are in a shape that is quite positive because we are motivated, we have good confidence levels and we have some players available who are used to playing in those positions.”
Kenny Dalglish
"We'll just plod on. We'll add the points up and see where we get to. I've not looked at the points - I know we've got Arsenal Saturday and that's all we've got to do. It's an important game for us, it's an important game for Arsenal. They had a fantastic comeback last week at home to Tottenham, getting five goals in about 20 minutes. It's going to be difficult for us, so we'll make it difficult for them."

With no RVP, we're going to have to score goals the hard way because with no Verm to shore up the defence, we're absolutely going to concede goals

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
It's a joke. These friendlies, Absolutely pathetic.
Playing an injured Vermaelen for 90 mins, Playing an injured RVP, Calling Gervinho over for a useless friendly just a week after ACON finished. Wtf ?
I don't think Vermaelen will play. He isnt in the condition, Neither will Gervinho.

Adam is 50/50 to start at best. Carroll far, FAR more likely. Might want to revise that predicted line-up.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
Anyways great work sam as usual.
The game is far more important to liverpool than it is to us. We just need a point and go back happy away from a stadium which is yet to be conquered. Liverpool need those 3 points.
I wont mind if we play a boring game, Especially if Chelsea drop points as well.
But ofcoarse a win would be awesome, However point wouldnt be bad either.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
Raul Mereiles scores one at the Emirates.
There was a Pepe Reina OG last season at Anfield.
Van Persie and Kuyt both scored penalties at the Emirates last season.
Arshavin and Benayoun both scored in stoppage time in that 4-4 at Anfield.
There's your 6.

Arsenal 'set to start' Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen & Tomas Rosicky against Liverpool despite knocks - http://bit.ly/A0jWYb
Wenger: "It's great to have Diaby back. I'll never give up on a player if he has desire. His focus to do well is really unbelievable.”
"We have a good opportunity to put Liverpool far (10 points) behind us, and we want to take it."

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
I hope Diaby starts for you guys since Carra is most likely starting for us. Since they both have a knack of scoring own goals, just to even out the playing field.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview
Excellent preview friend...
Cant imagine if RVP or Verminator doesnt make it..
And where is Gervinho ? Is he injured ?
If RVP doesnt make it shall we go for Park.. Or Walcott/Gervinho in centre with Alex in the wing.. Sounds interesting ?
And if Verminator doesnt make it its going to be Djurou.. And we know whats going to happen...

Great job Sam.
Hope to see a win and Diaby come on in the last 20-30 minutes to score a screamer.
