What's between mountain and valley?

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
First part: you could render the two sides from the corner to a triangle and calculate its area. The area is something like A= sin(a)*0.5*b*c . sin(a) will be sqr2 /2 which means a=45°halamadrid2 wrote:lol i actually dont know babun... was thinking of 1/2 sine something but my mind has just gone blank... could you show usKamina wrote:Mole visited the thread and was annoyed

To the other part, the answer is more ridiculious than that. Think of Mole and you'll be able to answer the question

As for the answer, "and" is between a mountain and valley :lol!:
Fun and somewhat logical question:
How would a mathematician catch a lion in an instant in a desert if he's got a 4x4 meter cage ?
requirements: sense of humor and some basic knowledge in maths theorie
Try to solve this one. A hint, you have to work with definitions

It makes sense in maths only The accent is on catching the lion in an instanthalamadrid2 wrote:Kamina wrote:Fun and somewhat logical question:

Answer to lion question ( only mathematicians would understand)
He'll lock himself into the cage and define the inside of it as outside...

Next question, junior high level
A very beautiful marathon runner girl is swimming in the middle of a circular sea in the morning. A rapist sees her there and awaits her arrival to the shore, of course, he keeps the distance as close as possible... She notices him and escapes
The question, how did she escape if the rapist runs 4 times as fast as the girl swims?

She should swim around in a spiral manner with the pitch of that helix being lesser than 0.25 times the radius of the circle.

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
Good idea but if she swims as spiral as you suggest her way will become much longer You need to modify your answerkiranr wrote:Kamina wrote:Next question, junior high level

she takes the boat... just kidding lol
would she adjust the angle she swims such that it forms a sector of a circle
by that she would increase the arc length of the circle and the amount of time he takes to catch up would be more than 4 times and he wouldnt keep up

Then does she go in straight lines instead of a spiral?

I suspect you're a rapist because with your method she'd be caught 100%spanky489 wrote:shes at the center and swims to the end opposite of the rapist.

You and kiranr are close to the answer but can't see it. Draw a circle somewhere, maybe you'll see the lighthalamadrid2 wrote:Kamina wrote:Next question, junior high level

ok she starts in the middle and swims in a parabola towards land in the same way the rapist is running.

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
ok here is a paint ive tried to draw lol
basically she turns about 110 or more degrees instead of swimming to A/B she swims to C she swims straight to the shores and since he is 4 times faster than her it wouldnt matter as it would be too far from him anyways so he wouldnt be able to keep up(it would also form a bearing but cant draw that was well)

basically, first its a straight line to the shore... but the rapirst is there so she turn and swims in another direction producing an angle of whatever, this would create an arc length and it would be too far from him so she can swim there before he catches up and call the police lol

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
People, assume the radius of the cricle is a 1, then the perimeter would be P=2*pi. If she swims from the centre in the opposite direction straight, then she'll swim 1 unit but the rapist will run 4*1 which is greater than pi=3.14..... He'll catch her
Think of a proper solution, kiranr's spiral idea wasn't bad ot begin with

Re: Maths- Gym for Brainiacs
If the radius is 1 and the girl swims straight then 1 would be the shortest distance to cover. Rapist's velocity is 4 times as fast so in the same time he'll cover 4 times as much ground as the girlspanky489 wrote:Kamina wrote:People, assume the radius of the cricle is a 1, then the perimeter would be P=2*pi.
