I've said it before. La Liga's quality is still good but the problem is Real Madrid and Barcelona. They're just better than any team out there.

Seriously speaking its no surprise considering Liga teams are the ones who pride themselves on passing the most and to thwart/neutralize that threat, it is highly important to intercept one of the main sources of open play.
Also, here are the stats for the interceptions for individuals in the CL group stages.

You can only determine that if the interceptions were against non La Liga teams.
When you have 2 Spanish team (2 equally gifted possession keeping teams then there would be more interceptions.

They play high lines and fast tempo: isn't it obvious there's less space to run to intercept a pass, and more probability to misplace a pass right into the opposition?

but by that logic bpl sides should have more interceptions since they play at a faster tempo

I can't make sense of the statistics. Wen't into whoscored with hopes of proving that the PL have alot more tackles per game. Which would just serve to prove the generally accepted images of the leagues. But La Liga teams have way more tackles in average per game than EPL teams. They also have way more fouls in average but that can be attributed to the less lenient refs. Weirdly enough La Liga teams also concede less shots per game than EPL teams.
If anything it busts the myth that EPL is played in a higher tempo which should mean a faster change of pace and more exchanges of possession during the course of a game. is EPL actually more tiki taka (meaning that keeping possession is a goal in itself) back and forth than La Liga..?
