Let's face it, Suarez isn't one of the nicest players on the football pitch - not saying that's bad, players don't have to be nice, you need to have some balls - and I for one don't believe he is completely innocent here. No, I don't think he is a racist, he was simply trying to get Evra worked up. But at this point it seems pretty much impossible to achieve a decisive victory in this matter, i.e. no ban for Suarez and make everyone convinced he said nothing out of order, so I believe the best option is to just accept the ban and move on.

I want us to fight this purely on principle. So Suarez used some offensive language. The report clearly states Evra started the insults and he has admitted to it, yet the FA have not done a thing about it. How any LFC fan can accept a fine, let alone a ban for this is beyond me. I say we take this to the highest level if need be.

This isn't about proving a point that we stronger than the FA. It's about completely clearing Suarez off all these racist charges. The report has come out, inconsistencies highlighted, yet the media and a lot of others believe Suarez is a racist simply on Evra's word. So, no; I don't think we should take this lying down.

Everyone is saying FA came to the conclusion based on EVra's word when Kuyt testimony is as damning. Why are we overlooking that?

RedOranje wrote:Translating from Spanish to Dutch to English... plenty of room for translation issues there.

Neither testimony helped though.

Both Kuyt and Suarez speak fluent Dutch. So not sure how there can be translation issues

Appealing the Suarez verdict could have only brought more backlash against the club and the player. The FA made it fairly clear that they had no interest in LFC and Suarez's side of the incident. The only thing an appeal could have accomplished was to be a public show of support for Suarez.

I certainly hope the strong statement issued by the club is enough to show the club's support of Suarez. The biggest danger of this situation is that Suarez ends up feeling unsettled and unhappy due to the league, the FA and other club's treatment of him. We can't do anything about that, but we must make sure that in the hearts and minds of the club and its supporters he will never walk alone.

Disappointed with the club's decision, but I guess it is understandable. Nothing more to say really. I've been rather vocal about the situation thus far and my point of view is there for most to see. I'll leave it that.

Hopefully Luis has the strength to deal with the crap storm that's bound to come his way now.

The following is a transcript from the Liverpool press conference after the Anfield club's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City on Tuesday night:

Reporter: "Kenny, the wider world is pretty shocked that, if a player can call someone 'negro' and the player who is the victim in this takes offence, that there is no apology or contrition offered from your club."

Dalglish: "I would have thought that, if you pronounced the word properly, you maybe understand it better. I think it was Spanish he was speaking and I don't think you were speaking Spanish there."

Reporter: "OK, if a player calls someone 'negro' [Spanish pronunciation], surely the player who takes offence deserves an apology?"

Dalglish: "Ask a linguistic expert, which certainly I am not. They will tell you that the part of the country in Uruguay where he [Luis Suárez] comes from, it is perfectly acceptable. His wife calls him that and I don't think he is offended by her. We have made a statement and I think it is there for everybody to read. Luis has made a brilliant statement and we will stand by him."

Reporter: "But the FA verdict said it was 'simply incredible' to suggest it wasn't used in an offensive way when they were clearly arguing and it wasn't friendly."

Dalglish: "There's a lot of things we'd like to say and a lot we could say but we would only get ourselves in trouble. We are not trying to be evasive … well, we are being evasive because we don't like getting ourselves in trouble. But we know what has gone on. We know what is not in the report and that's important for us. So without me getting ourselves in trouble, I think that's it finished."

Reporter: "Why take the ban now and not play the next three games, including the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City?"

Dalglish: "He could have played for a fortnight but he has to serve eight games at some stage and this time is as good as any, isn't it? It was better to get the situation over and done with."

Reporter: "Mark Lawrenson was saying on the radio that you've got to fear now whether Suárez may feel unsettled playing in England. Is that a concern?"

Dalglish: "Because Mark Lawrenson said it? No. I don't see why we have to reply to anybody. If you're asking if I have any concern about Luis playing in England, then no."

Reporter: "Is he strong enough?"

Dalglish: "I don't have a problem with Luis playing in England."

Reporter: "Do you regret wearing the T-shirts?"

Dalglish: "You see, if one of you guys were in trouble, would you help him? Would you support him if you knew the truth and you knew it was right? Would you support him?"

Reporter: "But not with T-shirts when he has been found guilty …"

Dalglish: "Why not? If they want to show their support for their team-mate, what's wrong with that? It was a fabulous statement to make visually of their support for a guy who is endeared in the dressing room, one of their closest friends in the dressing room, and all of his friends in the dressing room can speak up adequately and perfectly well for him. And I think it is very dangerous and unfortunate that you don't actually know the whole content of what went on at the hearing. I'm not prepared, and I can't say it, but I am just saying it is really unfortunate you never got to hear it. That's all I'm saying."

Reporter: "Kenny, given how the wider public are so opposed to your view, what do you have to lose by telling us and revealing what you're saying was not included in the FA statement?"

Dalglish: "It's up to the club to decide what they want to do."

Reporter: "But if you have something to say, surely say it – because the alternative is you are digging a bigger hole for yourself?"

Dalglish: "I don't think we are digging a bigger hole but I just think it's unfortunate we can't be more forthcoming. That's the unfortunate thing."

Reporter: "In your two statements you basically accused the FA of a conspiracy against your club."

Dalglish: "So they have made a statement then …"

Liverpool press officer intervenes and asks for no more questions on Suárez.

Reporter: "The hearing was to lay out all the evidence, 115 pages of evidence, and you have said they [the FA] have done it subjectively. So why do you think the FA are targeting Liverpool and Suárez?"

Dalglish: "Maybe wrong place, wrong time. It could have been anybody. I can't answer for the FA, you ask them."

Reporter: "You think there is an agenda against Liverpool?"

Dalglish: "No. You said that. I never. You get yourself in trouble, I'm all right."

Reporter: "Are you concerned Suárez's first game back could be at Old Trafford?"

Dalglish: "I'll just be delighted to get him back."

Evra may have given evidence in a clear and composed way in the hearing, but the Daily Mail found some footage of Evra when he wasn't quite so... composed.

This is a must-view for all LFC fans. (Warning: there is offensive language in the video.)

No it's not a good idea. The matter is done with as far as LFC are concerned. Unless you want to deal with the crappy justifications in the general section by some people, it's pointless. Matter done with on our end. No point prolonging it.

Suarez's ban includes all FA games, including EPL, Carling Cup and FA Cup. This means that if we make it to the 4th round of the FA Cup, Suarez will be eligible for the Tottenham match.

Didn't the ban start from the City game? Thought the NUFC game ban was because of the finger. Either way, he either makes his start against Spurs or United, lol.

You are correct. The eight-match ban started with City. The NUFC ban was for the Fuham finger.

Hopefully, this will make it more clear for everyone (and make it clear why we cannot afford to slip up against Oldham today).

6 Jan: Oldham (FA Cup R3)
11 Jan: Man City (League Cup)
14 Jan: Stoke (Premier League)
21 Jan: Bolton (Premier League)
25 Jan: Man City (League Cup)
28 Jan: FA Cup R4 (if Liverpool beat Oldham)

not to reraise this demon after its already been done, but terry's hearing with the english police is taking place in july, after the season and the euros will have finished. especially considering chelsea is one of our direct rivals for top 4, the fact that our player was banned for 8 games with nothing but hearsay as evidence against him, while their player, who has enough evidence against him to warrant a civil suit, won't be punished until after the season is over, is absolutely ludicrous. there really can be no doubt at this point that the fa has had their had well up their ***

The key factor in Terry's case is that there is more than hearsay evidence. The video evidence is much more clear than in the Suarez case. THis actually delays the process, because they have decided to bring the authorities into it. Had the FA handled it, I would assume (giving the FA the benefit of the doubt) that they would have ruled similarly, banning him for a substantial period. However, because his charges are somewhat more serious, and handled by the proper authorities, there must be due process. This takes time. Unfortunately, the time it takes for the case to run its course in a court of law means that the Terry effectively comes off scot-free from a footballing perspective. I would hope that the FA would take some sort of punitive action should Terry be found guilty. A similarly lengthy ban for the beginning of the season would do the trick nicely. However, something tells me they will release a statement saying that they believe any punishment by the courts was sufficient for Terry, again letting Chelsea off scot-free.

It hasn't happened yet, and I'm already disgusted. Mad

i don't see why the fa wouldn't be able to conduct their own investigation outside of the courts and make their own decision even prior to decision by the police force. they could have decided by now had they chosen to, and instead actively opted to allow the authorities to handle it. it was a choice, not a requirement, that they wait until the official determination was made.

Not sure how much control the FA had on the whole Terry affair, as once the criminal charge was filed the FA could not take action against Terry until after the court case.

I would be interested to know who, exactly, filed the charge though. It's a rather fortunate coincidence that the case is scheduled for after what will almost certainly be the English National Team Captain's last major international tournament.

If the English media are to be believed - which I understand is a laughable practice at times - Terry could be stripped of the captaincy or not included at all due to the potential controversy his inclusion/captaincy could create.

Personally, I'll believe this when the three lions take the field in Polland without Terry in the side. Until then, I will remain skeptical.
