Why would we need Coentrao? Marcelo is 900000000000000000000 times better. I'm gonna get really upset if Marcelo goes to the bench, I've been really fond of him lately

I agree that Marcelo shouldn't be benched, but it's very hard to see Coentrao coming to play rotation at such a price. I think 25M + a player is too much anyway, especially since he has no history of playing RB.

I really hate... and i mean HATE... clubs that sign multiple young WC talent at the same position just to have one or several of them sit on the bench.

At the rate we're going, our bench would make one of the best teams in the world.

It's a shame for football and a shame for the fans.

Not really. I hated Chelsea for doing it a few years back too. It takes away from the sport. As a fan, i want the best players to play, not sit on the bench.

True. But then Ramos goes to CB and we just signed Varane. Carvalho is the only one that would be benched that actually should be ok with it given his age. You would have Albiol, Varane and Garay that are all going to get very few minutes with Carvalho being the #1 sub. I understand keeping one other with Carvalho to give us additional backup. But we would still have two extra guys. Varane and Garay both need to play.

Best scenario would be for Varane to get loaned and Garay to get sold in this scenario.

But if Coentrao and Marcelo are competing for the same spot, that's very disturbing. They are the two best young LBs in the world.

Including Garay in the deal for Coentrao would be a smart move, considering the recent activity with Varane.

I've never considered Coentrao coming as a LB. If we wanted someone to compete with Marcelo, we surely wouldn't sign a player with demands of a regular starting spot.

We have 3 AMs, 2 CFs, a million wingers, etc. So it's not like it would go against the grain to sign another WC player to compete for LB.

I would prefer Varane to not get minutes than Marcelo being on the bench. That being said if Varane gets loaned out that would sort us out assuming that Coentrao goes RB. Garay would go out so we will have Carvalho and Albilol for cover.
