The reason for getting another fullback, is we need a CB to replace Carvalho. Ramos is the new CB. There is no way Ramos sits on bench - he's the next captain of both Real madrid and Selecciones!!!!!

Apparently Coentrao is negotiating his contract.

The new deal for Coentrao could be Drenthe and 25m Euros.

if repors are true that benfica's president indeed came over. its pretty much done.

According to press we just need to agree a contract with Coentrao for the transfer to be finalised

Apparently Chelsea offered more money for him but Coentrao wants to join us.

According to EC, Real Madrid is backing off the negotiations with coentrao and wont insist in paying the kind of money Benfica is after.

The article does run with the conception that Coentrao is brought up to add depth on the left which is indeed stupid, and the reason why the madrid board isnt going to insist on signing him given our depth.

We all went along in assuming that he was being signed to be an inverted RB, which truly is the only justification to sign him, so unless they are missing the point or unaware of why we are signing him, then he wont come here. The price quoted as the limit Madrid will go up to is 15M, and they talk of Chelsea's interest in signing him, which is odd with Cole being there...

I'm going to hold it for a little while, i was expecting this in a way.

If mourinho has a brilliant plan to sign him as an inverted RB then it will happen.

If not, then it's a stupid signing like i said, and Varane will be the only defensive reinforcement.

I did predict we would sign a CB, so at least that's that

I remember a good few of us discussing CB signings, but of course Varane was never mentioned.

As for Coentrao, wow, this is getting strange. I'm still sticking with the idea that he is coming as an inverted RB, since we've heard all of this news over the weeks and this is would be such a sharp turn.

I said from day one that signing him for LB is nonsense, no changes there.

I think none of us was expecting such a young player, guys like Sakho or Hummels were mentioned, but an experience fella was my wish at least.

I was expecting the story to die down, and until we go pass july 1st, i wont give anything as dead just yet.

They're too greedy. I wouldn't pay more than 20 millions € for a fullback who isn't proven in a top 4 league 22+Garay and clauses? Never!

im kinda glad i wasn't feeling the inverted rb thing, lets just get a young proper rb and groom him or let arbeloa start he deserves that too

As you may know, I'm one of Arbeloa's biggest fans, however, his attacking qualities are limited. A move for Coentrao makes sense, at least from that standpoint.

I too would be reluctant to pay over 20 if a player is included. Put Drenthe or Garay in a deal and drop a few million, then I'd be comfortable.

Forget about Sarabia and Gago, as I think the latter could still draw a reasonable fee in a separate deal.

We have RB already I think we should just leave him at Benfica.

Apparently we didn't want to pay 30m for Coentrao and instead we offered 15m and a player.
