Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
That's true. But then again Neuer's only 25 so he has plenty of time to cement his status in history. Then again, Casillas ain't old.
The clean sheets have been more defense than goalkeeping, but Neuer still pulls off plenty of wonder saves when he has to. Had a Casillas-esque match against Hoffenheim with Bayern having a bad day.

Lol, you're kidding right man? I'd hope soZealous wrote:
Iker is so highly rated because when gut check time comes along he delivers. When Git check time came for Neuer in the world cup he decided to stay at home instead of try to claim the corner kick Puyol scored from.
It's the little things that make your legacy which is why Cech will only really be remembered by Chelsea fans
If not, watch the replay again and ask yourself what the right play was...
As for this "playmaking goalkeeper" thing, yes, his distribution is good, but I put more credence down to the fact that the balls on the other end were being fielded by Huntelaar/Raul, Klose with the national tean, and now Bayern's attacking quartet rather than any brilliance on Neuer's part.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Guys, Neuer is NOT a playmaker. Just because he can kick and throw the ball very far away doesn't mean he's a playmaker.
But, we don't have to bring up Neuer's "playmaking" skills to praise him. Just by looking at the aspects that define a goalkeeper, he's world class in almost every aspect.
Definitely a top 3 goalie, but not because of his playmaking lol.

Fortunately with Neuer, his performance on pitch does match his stats nicely. There was a reason that SAF stated after the Schalke-ManUtd match: "In my time at United, it is probably the finest display of goalkeeping against us."PinePHresh wrote:statistics mean nothing in football. Madrid's defense have been pretty awful to their standards this season. Probably why Iker has had so many saves in comparison to Neuer.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Well, the number of saves alone is not the point - the ratio of saves vs goals conceded is, and there Neuer has a distinct advantage.
With Crimson's data it is:
Manuel Neuer
Bundesliga - 15 Saves, 1 Goal conceded in 8 Games (1.8 saves per game) = 93.75% saved shots
UEFA Champions League - 6 Saves 0 Goals conceded in 2 Games (3 saves per game) = 100% saved shots
Valdes:
La Liga - 6 Saves, 4 Goals conceded in 6 Games (1 save per game) = 60% saved shots
UEFA Champions League - 2 Saves, 1 Goal conceded in 2 Games (1 save per game) = 50% saved shots (okay, here the sample is a bit too small)
Casillas
La Liga - 17 Saves, 5 Goals conceded in 6 Games (2.8 saves per game) = 72.73% saved shots
UEFA Champions League - 7 Saves, 0 Goals conceded in 2 Games (3.5 saves per game) = 100% saved shots

The point is and that I was making is that it's much easier to keep a clean sheet when only having to deal with 2 shots per game and when you have such a great defence in front of you.
Just food for thought

Well, on the other hand, if you get altogether 23 shots on goal and only let one in that is significantly better than getting 29 shots on goal and letting 5 in.Crimson wrote:The point is and that I was making is that it's much easier to keep a clean sheet when only having to deal with 2 shots per game and when you have such a great defence in front of you.

10 games played vs 8
Casillas is doing alot more work in comparison
Once Bayern break a sweat I might change my mind

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Actually, the number of games is not so relevant - if you want to determine how many shots a GK saves, the proper calculation is shots on goal vs goals conceded. After all, that is the measure how efficient the GK is.
For softer stats you can of course also add how many times he initiates a successful attack that directly leads to a goal, too, just as Neuer did twice against Turkey last week. From his throw in / kick, there were only two stations and then the ball was in the opponent's goal.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Stats don't show everything.
For example if Casillias concedes from a screamer compared to Neuer conceding from a tap in in which he could not have done anything about are completely different things.
Though it does show Casillias is having to deal with more shots than Neuer is.

Casillas also does this hence the quick counter attack goals Real Madrid is known for atm
Not so much in Spain though because the style of play is so different
Neuer is playing amazing atm though would love to see him break the record for minutes without conceding and he will and should be Germany's number 1 for the foreseeable future (and with any luck considering the team they have should win a couple of trophies too), I was just pointing out the people in this forum saying he is better than Casillas is a little premature, considering we are only a few games into the season and all that Casillas has done in his career, especially at international level.
Iker Casillas will have to wait to equal Andoni Zubizarreta's record of 126 Spain caps, with Vicente del Bosque set to rest the Real Madrid captain for Tuesday's clash with Scotland, Marca reports.
His record at international level is made all the more impressive by the fact that Spain have conceded just 73 goals in his 125 games between the sticks, compared to Zubizarreta's 99.
Also he holds the clean sheet record at International level
Neuer is great and may well hold the torch for the Germans but calling him better than Casillas is premature.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
I guess in that respect Neuer is lucky that the German NT plays pretty similar to Bayern (well, there can be up to 8 Bayern players starting for the German NT, so that should not come as too much of a surprise XD)Crimson wrote:Casillas also does this hence the quick counter attack goals Real Madrid is known for atm

Well, Neuer will have to be careful to fight off the upcoming new crop of goalkeepers in Germany, most notably Ron-Robert Zieler and Marc-André ter Stegen. But then, this can only help him to continually improve. Casillas also has very strong competition for the Spanish goal, so that is good for him, too.Crimson wrote:Neuer is playing amazing atm though would love to see him break the record for minutes without conceding and he will and should be Germany's number 1 for the foreseeable future (and with any luck considering the team they have should win a couple of trophies too), I was just pointing out the people in this forum saying he is better than Casillas is a little premature, considering we are only a few games into the season and all that Casillas has done in his career, especially at international level.
That's quite a record indeed. The legendary Oliver Kahn only had 86 caps to his name, much to my regret.Iker Casillas will have to wait to equal Andoni Zubizarreta's record of 126 Spain caps, with Vicente del Bosque set to rest the Real Madrid captain for Tuesday's clash with Scotland, Marca reports.

How many is that atm? (no time to look it up atm, sorry)Also he holds the clean sheet record at International level
Well, certainly not where over all achievements in the career are concerned. On current form I wouldn't be so sure, though.Neuer is great and may well hold the torch for the Germans but calling him better than Casillas is premature.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
ATM I think his record is at 70 clean sheets, I would have to check to be sure but I'm about 90% sure
On current form yes but there are so many factors to count that it is very hard to compare, although I do agree he is showing his quality alot more now he is at a much better team

I agree. There is not 1 GK that is better than Neuer. Only Casillas comes close to him.
