Marcelo v Alves

LOL at those who don't believe marcelo is a top 5 fullback, I never use to be a huge fan of his but lately I am noticing how much he contributes to the team, the way he rapes other players on the field is just godlike and his defending isn't as bad as it used to be. Plus Maradona is never wrong, which for him is "the best in the league" with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.

Maradona is a joke :study: , but what he says is true,anyone who watches marcelo play consistently and go and watch a next fullback play whether its cole or sagna knows that he is something special

Marcelo has been playing quite well for pretty much two years now, defensive frailties or not he's been one of the world's premier left backs and he is still quite young for a defender.

Marcelos isn't just full of talent he has talent oozing out of his pours. Alves was never this good when he was 22 and while that doesn't mean Marcelo will continue to get better it does mean that he already has the advantage.

Even in current levels of performance the nutmeg maestro with and afro has been very good.

Marcelo was named as the best LB in CL last year.

Oh and Alves at 22 when he was just establishing his career with seville was no where near as good as marcelo at 22.

Marcelo defensively improved in leaps and bounds under Mourinho.That i can agree to.

But I have watched him under Pellegrini and he was an atrocious defender.

He is a good offensive fullback no doubt but he has to have another good season like the last one to be rendered as a truly world class fullback.

His defending is still pretty much the same, the only difference is that now he has more defensive cover inder Jose.

An attacking full back lives and dies by the cover he is given by his team mates.

2 years? I hope to god you are not mentioning his year with Pelle as he was abysmal and most RM fans wanted him out.

The age factor cannot be compared as some players are late bloomers and others bloom when played to their strengths.

Plus, some players also have early peaks then others as this debate point is also invalid due to it being circumstantial.

But in the end, I hope he does well as I enjoy watching him. Lets hope he stays free of injuries.
