Realistic Targets?
I know things will change but how quickly we will see. But in current form, where do you think we will finish?
I say, if no january movement in transfers, we will finish outside of top4.

Re: Realistic Targets?
i gave you +1 seeing as someone gave you a neg rep for no reason.
I honestly think that 4th place is realistic. And if RVP, Sagna, and Verminator stay for next season, we can challenge for honours next year. As much as i hate to say it, this season is just a building block for seasons to come

Re: Realistic Targets?
We have to only fight off Spuds and Liverpool, not going to be hard to finish in the top 4 imo. All we have to do is stay focus and win our next few games. When Jack and Ver come back we will challenge top 4 for sure.
I know, I am one of those guys who picks on Diaby a lot, but if he stays healthy would be a big help and could be a monster for us.
Last year we saw flashes of what Diaby can be if he stays healthy.

Re: Realistic Targets?
I don't know if we'll fight for the title, but I expect to be in the top 4. I would be pretty disappointed if we finished behind Liverpool and Spurs, because our team is still superior to either of theirs (no bias whatsoever )

Re: Realistic Targets?
I am mentally reconciling with dealing with Spuds and Europa League next year.
Carling Cup or FA Cup would be nice. Maybe QL of CL? Maybe 5th place in title race. (Please god, let this not be asking for too much!)

Re: Realistic Targets?
I have no doubt that we will make the top4.. We have only liverpool to catch up.. Its not easy but not difficult too.. We saw what our attack and defense can do in the last few games.. they just need a few months to get the coordination right.. And the season is long.. Our squad is not that weak...

Re: Realistic Targets?
If we gather our marbles and put in a string of consistent performances, I can see us finishing 3rd or 4th, reach the QF of the CL and win the Carling Cup.

Re: Realistic Targets?
Of course we have to change our current form because in this form we are not going anywhere. However i still belive we can make it to top 4 with current squad. We are missing our 2 very best players, Verminator and Wilshere. Both are key players. Once they get back we will get better and better.

Re: Realistic Targets?
Maybe. We have money. We should go for M'Vila since Wenger wants him and isn't cup tied.
Apart from that... no idea. Martin has been so meh every time I've seen him and if M'Vila means going back to a more conservative, counter attacking style: I'm 100% behind it. Counter attacking football can be sexy as well.
Very sad we went from potential title challengers to a hopeful 4th place finish in a matter of months.

Call me whatever you want and neg rep me how much ever you want
I would rather we finish off the champions league place and get alot of pressure off our backs.
We need to rebuild and rethink from scratch. Not having too much pressure could help calm some nerves and give some of our new up and coming players a chance to blossom in a more relaxing environment.
Cause I believe our hopes of a trophy firmly lie in the youth players right now, otherwise I cant help but shiver at what is going to happen at Arsenal.
Yes, few more years without a trophy and blah blah, doom and gloom, cry cry whine whine, tantrum tantrum.
But the only real way this club is ever going to get out of this slump and give everyone else in the football world the hardest kick up their arse ever will be our youth players.
Honestly, VERY honestly, i feel we are on the brink of the greatness, our names are waiting to be etched upon the slab of teams that were nothing short of unstoppable.
And what drove those teams to greatness?
Their own blood.
Anyway, that's just me.

Re: Realistic Targets?
Maximum realistic target imo is: 4th place in EPL, and if we don't catch it, I want unfortunately Wenger out. I supported him and will support him forever, and i'm grateful and thankful for everything he has done for the club, but in that case for the good of the club he should leave.
Anyway in CL i hope we can do a 2006 run, Wenger can be very good in 2 leg competitions. If we have luck with injuries why not.

+1
I also believe that once our youngsters take up positions in the 1st team, we'll exhibit a new found never say die attitude (like Wilshere does) and will be considered as one of the greats of European football.

Re: Realistic Targets?
The top 3 of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea is almost certain. This we know.
The 4th place is between us, Liverpool and Spurs. This we know.
How do we compare to these two?
Liverpool have just lost 2 consecutive epl games whilst Spurs have already lost 2 this season. We are at the same level as these two.
It's a great shame Vermaelen and Wilshere are not fit as they would be making a massive difference. The quicker we get squad players like Rosicky and Diaby back too, the better. Hopefully Park can prove tonight he is a good striker.
If we are not in 4th place by January, I highly expect the board to go out and buy a big name or 2. Like in 09, when Villa were 4th, we bought Arshavin to boost the club and he was excellent for the 5 months after he arrived.
Yes he hasn't been consistent since then but the point is, a name or 2 arriving can help get us that 4th place.
I am still confident we will finish 4th, but we absolutely must beat Bolton this weekend.

Re: Realistic Targets?
I don't want to be a pessimist, but I genuinely believe we could end up struggling to attract big name players. Beside never wanting to spend the damn money; I just get this feeling that we don't have as much clout as we used to. That's just me anyway!

100% agree on you with this part.
Our strategy this winter/summer should be to sign high profile (not essentially WC, but having the potential to be so) players for areas in which we are sorely lacking quality, as well as mercurial signings (Hazard, Goetze) and promote more of our youth into the first team. Even with our influence and reputation on a downward spiral, I believe we can secure such signings. With the right balance of consistent and WC (or X factor) players and an above average squad depth, we could give every big team in Europe a run for their money. We could regain our lost reputation and reestablish ourselves as one of Europe's elite. But we've got to move real fast in the transfer market for that. Real, real fast.
