Re: Messi " Records & Targets"
Its incredible how if Messi replicated this seasons goals he would be two away from the all time Barcelona top scorers at 23 years old with about 5 seasons at top flight! Pretty ridiculous considering the top scorer made his goals in 13 seasonsKhaledbarca wrote:`Barca All-Time Top Scorers
1- César Rodríguez 235 Goals (Spain, 1942–1955)
2- Kubala with 196 Goals (Hungary, 1950–1961)
3- Lionel Messi 180 Goals ( Argentina, 2004–
4- Josep Samitier 178 Goals (Spain,1919–1932)
5 Josep Escolà 167 Goals (Span, 1934–1949)
6 Paulino Alcántara 137 Goals (Philippines,1912–1927)
7 Ángel Arocha 134 Goals (Span, 1926–1933)
8 Samuel Eto'o 130 Goals (Cameroon, 2004–2009)
Rivaldo 130 Goals (Brazil, 1997–2002 )
10 Mariano Martín 124 Goals (Spain, 1940–1948)

Jesus christ, it just hit me that if Messi has another season like this one he can be Barca's all time top scorer at 24. That's insane.

Just imagine how many goals he'll have at the end of his Barca career, mind boggling really.alfredandrew wrote:Jesus christ, it just hit me that if Messi has another season like this one he can be Barca's all time top scorer at 24. That's insane.

DAYUM.
I'm just going to put this out there, Del Piero was going to be one of the world's best players. He already booted Baggio out of the team effectively (this was about 12 seasons back). He had a 30+ goal season AND THEN came his horrific knee injury (double I think). When he came back he never was the same again and still managed to break a few records. My point is that I hope that it doesn't happen with Messi, I want to see how far this guy can go. But I am really astonished that he's pretty much Barcelona's best player ever at such a young age (or will be).

It has become ridiculous really.
Don't want to predict anything though. Just let him stay healthy and up up and away...

i dont know how good he would be at 33 because he would loose his agility and speed by then.he has to evolve even more as a footballer to be a success at that age.
he has to control and dictate the game as he would not be able to take on defenders as succesfully as now.
but i have complete faith in him.we have seen him evolve drastically from the rijkaard era to the pep era.even in each of the last 3 yrs we have seen new sides of his game.this year has been his most amazing as a false 9.

Even now does he rely more on his agility of mind or agility of body?
As you mention he has evolved drastically.I dont think he would struggle in 5 years time even if he loses the quickness as he has he technique and the smarts to still be the best in the world.

Re: Messi " Records & Targets"
Despite all these crazy records what amazes me most about the mini maestro is the fact that most players in his general position don't really peak until 27+
So to be fair as much as it pains me to say this I can see him getting better.
Maradona was 25/26 when he guided Argentina to the 1986 World Cup. Messi will be 26/27 when 2014 rolls around. Kind of scary to think of.
BTW Congratulations on the UCL

Re: Messi " Records & Targets"
he should beat the barca top scorers alright, within 2years most likely barring injuries etc!
however as he gets older i can see his goalscoring getting lower as he'll move further back into a midfield position a la giggs!!

You bring up a dangerous but good point. I remember there was a time when Diego Maradona called Del Piero a better player than Zinedine Zidane. Now we don't even talk about them in the same breath. What I didn't know is that he suffered an injury in-between. That makes me understand this matter better.

Del Piero only lost a couple of seasons not in top form due to the injury. If the injury heals well, I don't see reason why an injury can prevent you from developing.
Look Xavi, he had his ligament broken and he continued to improve afterwards. Although for me he was as good in 03/04 than in 08/09. And Del Piero seems to have healed well judging for his longevity and sucess after the 30+ years. He was still playing awesome football since a couple of seasons ago.

Re: Messi " Records & Targets"
On topic, it's just unbelievable to see Messi topping or almost topping all those records at 24 years. If he stays healthy, he will most likely beat almost all those records except the one season goals (I think that 66 is unbeatable).

I believe with the Supercup Messi has 19 official titles. With 3 more he will meet Cambiasso and Di Stefano and become the Argentine with the most amount of official titles.
