Ultimately Serie A's prowess won't be tested by a lucky game day but by how far their teams go in the CL, and I know no one has high expectations for the Italian teams past the last 16.

Re: Who said Serie A is dead?
Serie A is declining slowly... there's no denying that. It used to be the undeniable best league. Now, it is clearly behind both the EPL and La Liga. I think it's currently the #3 league in the world. Bundesliga is not too far behind and Ligue 1 may catch up.
It comes down to a simple issue: Finances. Serie A doesn't carry the muscle anymore. It's also nowhere near Spain, France and Germany in terms of youth development.
Unless either the youth programs drastically improves or the financial equation changes.... life is going to be difficult for Serie A. Reform has been slow. Stadiums are old. Revenue is decreasing.

Re: Who said Serie A is dead?
I watch BPL, Liga, Eredivisielive and Serie A. I have witness great recover of Serie A since the calcio scandal. The first week of games after the player strike they say on dutch TV that more goals were made since 25 year in Serie A. And, the best games this week were on Serie A. I saw even my Milan play end to end game with Lazio at faster speed than EPL game of the week but with more control of the ball. Palermo was fastest team I have see for many years in any league and very good to beat Inter with 7 goal game.
And Napoli is young very fast club and can win scudetto. They are more talent than most BPL or La Liga club. Serie A is at the rise.

Re: Who said Serie A is dead?
You can't say Serie A is on the rise when the best talent in the world plays in EPL and La Liga and all the major purchases are made by those leagues, both in terms of established stars and young players. You also cannot say it's on the rise when Italy's youth ranks are invisible in all the international competitions.
It's definitely elite... but clearly #3 and falling further back from the top 2.

Sportczy is right..I think he was talking about the quality of the League ,the youth system and financial prowess and clearly its inferior at the moment..
But its definitely competitive though..Milan are at the moment a step ahead of other teams but the race to the champions league spots is gonna be an exciting one..

Re: Who said Serie A is dead?
a bit to early to go saying we are in par with teams like City and Barca....
Honestly though i was thinking about it,and i honestly think that the biggest gap between serie a and the other leagues is spending power. For example,Barcelona had no one other than cesc coming on when inesta got injured and City bough Nasri and Aguero on the last summer window with no one other than tevez on the bench. What were the big names that came to serie?no one...

Realistically, judging from 5 seasons, Chelsea have shown they are realistically adequate challengers.

Anyone who brings up EPL in this thread is delusional.

Re: Who said Serie A is dead?
Serie A is not on the decline... It hit rock bottom a couple years ago and now it's improving again.
And it's a great league to watch because aside from inter storming the league up until 2010 it's always wide open. They only topped the league for a while because they killed the competition with "scandals" and became the only go-to club for top players moving to italy. Now it's unpredictable but not hyped by English media, therefore it must be bad right?
La liga is the weakest league out of the top 4 in terms of all of the teams. The premier league is currently topping that.
Serie A is on the rise, bundesliga is too. English league is crippled with debt thanks to clubs using money they don't have.

La liga has won more Europa league's than series and EPL combined in last 10 years, with Pathetico beating inter in Super cup.still they talks about how laliga out side top 4 are weak with out having any single peace of proof to convince.
Im not even going to talk about how much others watch lal iga outside real and barca to make a statement like this.

WHich club are exactly in debts by using the money they dont have?
Almost all PL clubs are in more sound financial footing than Seria A and La liga clubs. Its not PL players who went on strike you know.

In terms of all the teams, means all the teams. Not the top part of the table. Once again it's a typical response.
For starters if we're talking about past cup victories here's the list of the teams who've won the Europa league the most.
Juventus. Wins 3, finalists 1.
Inter milan Wins 3, finalists 1
Liverpool Wins 3 finalists 0
Borrusia mon.. Wins 2 finalists 2
Tottenham wins 2 finalists 1
Point out the amazing europa league statistics of La liga one more time please.

"A report to be released by UEFA on the financial wellbeing of European football will reveal that Premier League clubs owe 56% of the continent's total footballing debt, raising further questions about why English football's finances have been allowed to spiral out of control."
Look up prem league debts and click on one of many articles detailing the immense debts.
