Raul Meireles
Probably the last thread you guys want to see right now so before I start I will just say this, I am not in any way in favour of this move, so far all the players we have bought off liverpool have done poorly, I hope Raul changes that but he was my third choice for our CM problems.
I want to know how creative he is as I believe he will take Lampard's spot, Mikel is playing well and Ramires won us the game on the weekend so I doubt he will be dropped. I understand he s a B2B with great ball retentsion and decent passing but how good is he a creating? I thought I would write up a creativity line so you can just put an x or something to show where he fits on the line.
Our midfield - - - - An arts student - - - Modric - - - a 3 year old - - - Ozil/Pastore/Fabregas
Lowest > highest.
Thanks guys and good luck for the season.

Re: Raul Meireles
I doubt he will replace Lampard as he can create and score more goals. He cant exactly put in a tackle like Ramires. He likes to play attacking midfield as that way he see's a lot of the ball, for me he was useless for us LM.
I dont think he will go into chelsea and be a massive hit but i think he will be a good squad player and have his moments

Re: Raul Meireles
Based on the what I've seen from Chelsea, I believe he could do very well for you guys. With that said however, I thought Torres would do good for you guys as well.
Meireles is absolutely useless if he is played out of position. This is just my opinion though. He has great vision, runs a lot and makes some killer passes. He generally seems to be in the right place at the right time which only adds to his creativity. He moves well and can keep possession.
He also scores goals every now and then. With that said, he isn't a Fabregas or Aquilani type player that can create miraculous opportunities. But, given the right situation, he does very well.

Re: Raul Meireles
Raul isn't really a creator. He keeps things moving and gives his teammates options with his movement, but he doesn't generally have the vision or pass in him to spread play and/or open a defense.
He's not going to be a like for like replacement for Modric as his passing range isn't as broad nor is he going to make the types of runs and shots that Lampard does. Also he is too timid in the tackle to effectively cover Essien's role as well. He will, however, give the likes of Mata, Lampard, Ramires, etc that extra passing option so that you guys can better use possession in midfield and the final third. His movement makes it easier for the more direct and more creative players to express themselves and influence the game.

Re: Raul Meireles
Ok so from what a gather he is a Attacking CM, which Fits Lampards role, he is great with his positioning and has good vision and passing. He isn't a playmaker but will keep the game flowing, he is not fast but makes good runs. That about right?
By the sounds of it he going to rotate with Lampard. I can see something like this:
If his positioning and passing are good I can see him linking up well with Mata with Mata as the primary creator.
He seems to be an improvement from our current midfield which is good. Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Raul Meireles
The guys up there described him very well already.
I don't think Meireles will be an automatic starter. Looking at your CM options you were a bit thin, especially with Essien gone, so you probably can use another CM on the bench, too, also in domestic cup competitions and so on.
Probably in a couple of months whoever is the most in-form of your CMs will get a start in BPL and CL games.

Why?
We've signed like 7 players with the cash Chelsea has spent.
I hated Chelsea for buying Torres, but Meireles... not too much. Don't get me wrong, I was angry at the time of when he put the transfer request and joined Chelsea, but he was nobody THAT important here. He had a good career for LFC for 6 months. He was sorta "hot and cold" for that 6 months too.
That sounds harsh though. RM is a quality player. He was just never a player that would help benifit Kenny's pass and move.

Re: Raul Meireles
That probably has something to do with their financial situation. I can't hate them if they are so dead poor that they have obvious weaknesses but can't even pretend to be moving to fill the holes.Messiakanino wrote:Haha i hate Chelsea's guts too for taking El Nino away from us but not nearly as much as ManU.....but for some reason i do hate them more than Everton
As for Meireles, I will sorely miss him in the squad. I always thoroughly enjoyed watching him play. He may not create like Fabregas, shoot like Gerrard or run like Lennon, but he does everything at a relatively high level. He is the equivalent of a utility man in baseball. Bring him into the game and he will put forth a solid - if unremarkable - performance at nearly any position in midfield or attack. His defensive qualities are probably his weakest asset. While he will chase and harass players on the ball, he tends to pull out of a lot of challenges in favor of containing the player.
He is the perfect man to have if you need cover on the bench, and he has an innate ability to be in the right place at the right time. I will always remember the game against Chelsea when he came out of nowhere and got onto the end of Gerrard's cross. I believe that was the single most important goal of last season for LFC. It gave the club confidence and a sense that we were on the up and up. Personally, I remember standing in front of my TV screaming like an idiot.
With all of that said, he doesn't possess anything that is irreplaceable. At LFC he was never going to be a regular starter, because his skill set was not specific enough for Daglish's needs. He can't pass like adam, he can't tackle(own the midfield) like Lucas, he's not really a winger(though, he most likely would've been deployed on the right had he stayed)... He doesn't fit; he fills. Chelsea will be a better team for having him, and I wish him the best of luck (except, of course, when he plays LFC). However, I can't see him being the "missing piece" for them. I think Mata is far closer to filling that particular role.

Re: Raul Meireles
^^
Fantastic point mate, and great call on the importance of Raul's goal at SB last season. I was quite pissed when it happened and called him names, but now I've gotten over it, and actually wish him good luck. However, I will take my wish back if it turns out his middle finger vs Arsenal was towards our bench and Liverpool Football Club. I enjoyed win @ SB more so than thrashings of the 2 Mancs...what a great game it was, still getting goosebumps typing about it. He got offered cl footy + twice the wages, and probably more chance of starting and since he was only here for a year, I can definitely see the reason behind his decision.
Thank you Raul Meireles, best of luck there as long as CFC finishes below LFC.
