Re: germany can stop spain
I love Podolski hard, and he is god.
But Blasphemy-time:
Starting Schürrle or Götze there would probably do us very good.
Dear god it was painful typing that.

In terms of their counter attacking I see Loew trying more then just counter-attacking football as with his ambition Germany is evolving into a complete team in terms of play. Pretty impressive stuff from a young man like Loew.
You are correct. Löws "Mission Statement" is to turn Germany into a more direct version of Spain/Barca, iE use tiki-taka passing, but focus less on possession and more on overcrowding the box and constant attacking until we go 1 or 2 goals up, then counter-attack.
So basically a hybrid between Arsenal/Barca and Real, if that makes any sense as an explanation. But that's what he states in interviews he wants to do, basically.

They look the same, nobody would noticeImmaculate_Mole wrote:Fixed the Bender bros are so boss that the ref would allow Germany to start with 12 players.
Unfair you say? take it up with Prince Poldi![]()

Schürrle has caught up with Podolski and will surpass him in good time. Real talk (not me just being a Leverkusen homer).

How did it "save" us when we dominated the whole match?
Because your domination was hollow. Yes, Germany looked timid, intimidated even, and Spain dominated possession.
But Germany actually had just as many chances, probably more. Remember that shot from Kroos? The one time Özil got through on goal and just didn't manage to finish?
Even though Spain clearly dominated, it still could've gone either way on a lucky (unlucky for you^^) day, while in 08 Spain were just utterly outclassing Germany in every department, including chances created while in 2010... Well in 2010 a shitty German with almost no possession still almost scored a couple of times.
That's the point of people saying it could've gone either way, I guess. Not that Spain weren't better that day, they were. They just weren't good enough to be sure about their win, or to be sure they'll win the next match as well. Could've gone either way. And would've been a hell of a match if Germany had played like they did against England, or Argentina. Or even Ghana. Regarding their mentality, that is. Or against Serbia, FFS. They just didn't really seem to try that hard. Whether it was fatigue, fear, inexperience - it wasn't being utterly doninated, like it was in 2008.
Exactly my point as I put in dominated but not outclassed the domination was clear do to the possession and pressing against Germany.
Frankly it wasn't fatigue or fear, but more closer to choking and as bad as that sounds, it simply meant the incredibly young and inexperienced team just did not play their game due to all the pressure and hype around the game. Not much Loew could have done about it considering the age of the team tells the story as maybe if a fearless leader like Ballack was there, things may have been different. This doesn't mean Lahm is not a great captain as he is more like Gerrard who will lead by example but is to introspective to bark and marshall his team like a general such as ballack can.
I'm sure with Loew's development and support along with the increase of experience and evolution of the newly found German counter-attacking system, Germany can and most probably will reach the level of Espana.

Re: germany can stop spain
see heres one thing that happened to spain from the portugal match all the way to the final, they kept possesion
but as i have said before, keeping possesion doesnt make u the better team, or put you in control, if you dont know what to do with it, and dont do anything with it, then whats the point.
if germany would have gotten out there, i dare say they would have won.
when i say save us i say it because we could have gone to penalties and who knows what would have happened.
i mean it in another sense basically.
and why do i mention podolski? cause hes god

Re: germany can stop spain
in 2012 we could use the same team as the wc but in 2014 we could use this one casillas/valdes
arbeloa/iraiola-pique-ramos-luis enrique
silva/cesc-busq/martinez-borja/iniesta /etc
cazorla/navas-llorente-pedro/mata
this team can win euro 2012 or wc 2014 there are too many good options in midfield and striker postition so i just listed some vdb can decide who is the best striker from llorente/torres/negredo/soldado ,ofcourse it wont be better than this team but it wont be much worse

Germany are a absolute joy to watch but I think Spain's experience and their ability to control a game would see them past the German challenge.

Re: germany can stop spain
How are Germany going to beat Spain?
Germany are best when they impose their will on teams and control the game. Look vs England the completely controlled the direction of the game and picked holes in the team. However, when they didnt have possession, even England got at them a little.
How would they hold up to a team that will control the entire game and force them to defend?
Ozil, Muller, Gomez and co. (basically their forward 4 players) would be forced into isolation and never get a chance to combine and create.
Spain are a terrible match up for Germany, its a style thing. We saw this already.
