Lmao, how stupid can the Spanish FA be? They throw away their WC chances because they’re a little Butthurt that the news got out that Lopetegui was appointed as RM manager? Shocking scenes.

Didn’t Conte also leave Italy for Chelsea a couple months before Euro 2016?

Conte's contract was ending after the Euro. It was a very public thing, and was done in March and announced in April. Well before the tournament, the friendlies and even the picking of the team, none of which played for Chelsea.

Re: Spain NT discussion
Post this here also as its about the manager but even more so about the teams WC chances...
This is crazy. It seems its a show of power from both Real Madrid and this Spanish FA president.... all putting Spain's WC chances at risk, which I think is criminal. As soon as Real announced it I thought the timing was strange, two days before the WC and your national manager will be gone, it must affect the team a bit.
And now the Spanish FA makes it worst because he couldnt tolerate his manager being snatched away by Flo decides to fire the day before the WC.
Im just amazed. It goes to show how messy these ppl in power are and just so selfish, unbelievable.
Now Spain will be led by Hierro, for some reason I just dont feel any confidence?

Re: Spain NT discussion
I think the question is who would want to work under the Spanish FA after that.

Re: Spain NT discussion
plenty of opportunistic lads like MIchel lol. It was leaked in the spanish medias this week that Rubiales likes Martinez, and he might wait the end of the world cup to approach him.

Martinez would be great, but first should be the dismissal of Rubiales? He destroyed a golden opportunity for us and there literally is no proper replacement available. I think it will be years before we have a solid opportunity again!

Dismissal of Rubiales is the minimum. I have often dreamed of shooting him dead. I just heard a fascinating interview with Graham Hunter explaining in detail what all could have been different if Lopetegui had been in charge.

It is what it is. Not all times can be bright. As Andres Iniesta said - "Sometimes things don't turn out the way we have dreamed."

No CBs + David Silva, Costa and Iniesta gone. I think Spain has a down cycle here for one WC and then we'll see.

They've underperformed despite having the talent. Now, they have talent deficiencies in certain spots.... they really need to adapt the style of play to the talent available imo. Need more pragmatism.

Re: Spain NT discussion
I agree, that's what i've been saying. Without Alonso and Xavi they can't play like this anymore. That's been obvious since 2014, they technically have talent but it's all concentrated in the same areas and skillset.
There's literally nothing to differentiate the team from one player to the next.

Re: Spain NT discussion
Not at all and he is from the same province as me! But there was noone outside of Martinez good enough and we can’t trust anything with Rubiales (ie his pride is more important than national interest) and Enrique’s got a bigger ego than Rubiales.
But we also have bigger problems, at least 6 of starters won’t be around for next WC, we don’t have a lot of backfill talent for strikers or CBs, we sadly need different different tactics (and Enrique isn’t the guy for that).
Plus first thing he said was to bring back Mata! Now I like Mata, actually know him personally, from my home town (and club), but he is behind at least 10 others in terms of talent.
I could go on and on, but reality is it will take years for us to have another realistic opportunity.
