Re: Spain NT discussion
Not at all and he is from the same province as me! But there was noone outside of Martinez good enough and we can’t trust anything with Rubiales (ie his pride is more important than national interest) and Enrique’s got a bigger ego than Rubiales.
But we also have bigger problems, at least 6 of starters won’t be around for next WC, we don’t have a lot of backfill talent for strikers or CBs, we sadly need different different tactics (and Enrique isn’t the guy for that).
Plus first thing he said was to bring back Mata! Now I like Mata, actually know him personally, from my home town (and club), but he is behind at least 10 others in terms of talent.
I could go on and on, but reality is it will take years for us to have another realistic opportunity.

@Bill... given the teams that made it to the quarters and semis of this WC... Spain will have enough talent. It comes down to the luck of the draw and team cohesion. The players and manager just have to get a lit more humble and then attack the tournament with the right mentality.

Not with that president, personnel director and now coach! Sure we have lots of midfield talent and laterals, but not much in other positions. I really felt Lopetequi had selected well with a good mix of youth and vets and was slowly effectively changing tactics being more direct, all that went out the window 2 days before tournament started. The only individuals that had an overall good tournament were Isco and Costa. That game against Russia was an embarrassment. First off with the possession leading to almost no shots at goal, then whoever heard of a coach not preparing team for penalties? Wonderful player but what a shit coach (and I saw him enough last year with my home club to know how bad he was!)

Re: Spain NT discussion
This Rubiales dude is determined to run Spain to the ground. First, he fires the manager two days before the world cup and replaces him with Hierro. Then he brings Luis Enrique, one of the most incompetent managers in the world, as the permanent replacement.
Spain is going back to the dark ages pre-2008.

No CBs + David Silva, Costa and Iniesta gone. I think Spain has a down cycle here for one WC and then we'll see.
I don't think David Silva has retired officially yet. He could carry on for one more Euro. Right?
Re: Spain NT discussion
With the amount of AM talent in Spain, I doubt David Silva will stick around to take the spot of a youngster.

Re: Spain NT discussion
No Alba in the Spain squad. Finally less Barca players the better. Now Busquets por favor. Then get rid of DDG. Bring back Iker. He's still the best Spanish keeper even at his current state.

Lol, Hala, just a wee bit of Madrid bias! With Luis Enrique, we aren’t expecting much!

That's what I was thinking lol, Hala forgot Lucho is steering this ship now.
That team doesn't have enough end-product to challenge teams like France though. Lots of players who are flashy but don't pose an actual threat.

Oh please Thiago is just a another Koke. Won't be long till Ceballos becomes a mainstay in the Spanish line up. By far the most talented of them all

Ramos scored a last minute equaliser that started our European dominance. I'll allow it.

Re: Spain NT discussion
You guys are paying too uch attention to squad list and Hala’s bias towards a Madrid focused lineup!
We Spanish are much more concerned with the choice of coach! Robert Martinez would have been a much better choice.
We are in for a spell of no expectations. We’ll need to worry more about qualifying than having any hope of matching up with favourites!

Luis Enrique is Guardiola level coach. The problem is there is no Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Villa, Casillas there anymore. Spain is in for quarter final exists for the next 20 years now. Again.

And keep in mind, I am a fellow Asturiano, yet even I can see his many flaws!

You're actually spot on. I thought the same, looked at that squad and realized they're rapidly losing quality.

One of the best coaches around and in Barca history. Won a treble and then a double and in his last season provided us with memorable and entertaining matches like Barca 6 - PSG 1. Also had balls. Even took on Messi. Also provided us with a new dimension and not just possession.
Of course Messi started ruining the shape (playing in the middle, leaving his wing empty offensively and defensively) and everything went downhill from there but Enrique did the best he could.

Ah Hans, the perpetual troll! I too have noticed a drop in quality (in the german team)!
At least we made in out of group play with a poor coach!
