Kiko is fourth choice keeper. He only got called up because Valdez got that long term injury. There is no point starting the fourth choice keeper when he wont even be in the squad when everyone are fit. He came on in the second half anyways. DeGea was supposed to start but he injured his finger so Iker started

Holland were ordinary apart from those two goals they scored they barely created a handful of chances. Spain really only have themselves to bkame for being so poor infront of goal

The signs of Spain's decline have been there for a while. Just not enough goals in that team since losing prime Villa, prime Torres, prime Xavi and prime Iniesta. When Pedro and Silva are the top two goalscorers of the current set-up, you know it's going to be a little difficult.

I actually believe that's the best thing Del Bosque could have said.

He's made it very clear to Costa that this is not about performances but behaviour and that it will not be tolerated, which he needed to hear from his manager after Mourinho essentially encouraged him further. It actually provides some motivation to show restraint in future.

Had he said it was about performances, that message would not have gotten through and he also avoids further harming the confidence of a potentially important player. Del Bosque's selections have frankly always been odd but I doubt he hasn't been concerned by how Costa has been playing but there's no need to necessarily bring that out publicly.

That depends on whether he'll back out of it as soon as it suits him.

I could have tolerated Prandelli's code of ethics if he actually applied it equally and stuck by it no matter what but the entire thing was a farce that went out the window if an important player was involved for a final tournament call up.
