Iceman wrote:Wiggles thinks that posting irrelevant information proving Seria A dominance in the past decades would prove him to be right. In his mind, even if Arsenal were to play Catania , we would still face a problem simply because Catania are from Seria A.
Not to mention that the league itself has declined as proven by the Uefa coefficients. I'm sorry, but I don't really think that "Seria A clubs don't care about the EL" is an excuse. Even if its partially true, Italy should not be lower than the Bundesliga IMHO. Their history is great, but recently the league hasn't been performing as well as it should.
I'm not attacking Seria A here, I'm just saying that Wiggles' initial statement, regarding how Udinese of last season would "wipe the floor with Arsenal" is completely unrelated to the arguments that he used. He was basically saying "Seria A > EPL" but I fail to see how such an argument, even if badly "proven", is at all related to Udinese vs Arsenal.
Wiggles is taking all of you for a ride and your falling for it lol.
Btw the "Seria A clubs don't care about the EL" is not an excuse, it's a sad fact.

You also forgot to add Inter didn't beat you away, you crapped all over us at the meazza:oops:GoonerJay29 wrote:Just realised I got something wrong:
Roma beat us in the second leg.
So the record is:
Played: 14
Won: 6
Drawn: 5
Lost: 3
Still a good record. Bit embarrased I forgot we lost, considering it was only a couple of years ago.

He wasn't arguing about that, someone said that he was over rating Serie A, so he set them straight.
The coefficients is true- and that is because Italian teams very stupidly don't bother with the EL and they NEED to start to. Roma and Lazio can and should reach the final with relative ease this year.
The fact is though- in the near past Serie A's record is joint with La Liga's. Despite the money, despite the decline.
Can you imagine what we would be like if we weren't in decline???
Well, It'd be the nineties.

Exactly. Your decline is the reason it ISN'T the nineties anymore and as long as Wiggles keeps on thinking that Seria A is as good as it has ever been, then we won't get much further in this discussion.
Is he overrating Udinese of last season? I believe so.
Here's a more relevant stat:
Arsenal have never been knocked out by an Italian club in the past decade, and possibly even more.

Near flawless?
You broke it up into individual matches. Put into that context, yes Serie A sides have more bite in them.
The CL knockouts are cup-ties however. 2 games decide who moves on and who doesn't. Arsenal have been on the right side of this scenario for a long time.

Everyone knows The English teams beat the Italians, The Italians beat the Spanish and the Spanish Beat the English.
For this reason + the fact that every single one of us has said Arsenal (without a Jesus and Baggio related Fabbrini Miracle) Will beat Udinese.
I forgot what we're arguing about.

Udinese play counter attacking football right? Last year's Udinese could have enjoyed success against Arsenal. Counter attacking football is currently Arsenal's bane.

I don't remember him saying all Serie A teams could beat arsenal.
Although most Serie B teams would probably too. Arsenal are nothing on AS Bari.

Re: Arsenal face Udinese in CL playoff for Group Stages
His statement was that Udinese of last season would have wiped the floor with Arsenal.
Question: How come Arsenal beat Manchester United, who are one of the best counter-attacking teams in Europe?
Answer: Counter-attacking does not mean that Arsenal will lose.
It all depends on the teams, and Udinese wouldn't have wiped the floor with us. Sure, they'd have a much better chance of getting a result, but they wouldn't be favorites.
If Udinese had faced us in the final 2 months of last season, then they would have probably beaten us just like a team such as Bolton did. If they had faced us at any other point in the season, especially prior to the CC cup loss, then they still wouldn't have stood a chance against us.

United lost a lot of their counter attacking edge with the exit of CR. I heard that Udinese had a good counter attacking team last year, so Arsenal may have found it difficult to keep Udinese at bay!

To make it clear, Udinese will lose against Arsenal by large scores, possible goleadas this year.
Udinese was an exceptional team last year. After losing a bunch of games early on they were practically unbeatable. They had heart they had stamina and Di Natale or Sanchez would always score. They would have been more than exceptional had they kept their players after one year under their belts, and that team would have thumped Arsenal, in my opinion. Premfaces can have their own opinion.
Without the threat of Sanchez keeping defenders occupied, Di Natale will have trouble scoring at all. Plus it was Sanchez's speed that made their counter attack so devastating. No Sanchez no attack.
Zapata was the field marshal on defense, they lost him. No Zapata, a bunch of mistakes and balls in the net.
Inler bossed the mid field, they lost him. Without Inler they will lose the ball often and have a hard time getting it back.
Udinese is headed to Serie B and until they get a decent owner they will always fail.

Funnily enough, Ronaldo only ever played well against Arsenal in one match. The rest were pretty bad for him

I am only talking about United's counter attacking game losing edge after Ronaldo exit.
Sanchez with Udinese could have been a nightmare for the Arsenal defense when being counter-attacked. Maybe they would not have wiped the floor, but they definitely had the ability to beat Arsenal!

i mean the serieacers are pretty prominent on this forum and its very difficult to say anything against italian football because of the sheer number of fans and all, but does anyone really think that even with sanchez udinese would , could beat arsenal? lol like it or not, italian football is in 'DECLINE' and their competitiveness in europe is in question.. and add to that arsenal are one of the most experienced sides in the cl in previous seasons.. i mean they might not win anything but they are a world class side and deserve respect.. theyll win easily

If they were playing Arsenal post-Carling Cup final, Udinese would have won. I've no shame in admitting that.

If they didnt sell inler either then yes theyd have a big shot. This was a team that really knew how to score. Di Natale is going all out so theres even a sligght chance they could still win.

yeah but the point is like for eg milan last year was much superior to spurs.. i mean crouch vs nesta or thiago silva ..lol or ibrahimovic , pato ,robinho vs dawson and that ekotto guy? lol but.. the epl sides play a very fast game which does hinder the serie sides a bit at least the traditional ones..dont know much about how udinese plays but they would have to play a slower game to adapt to the organised tactics for serie a.. and i feel arsenal have reached the semis and finals in the last few years and have even beaten the best team in the world last season so they should be given a bit more respect compared to - no offense but european upstarts like udinese..

wiggles...isn't that already a fact that Serie A is the most succesful league of alltimes?
stop posting same bs all d time...what has Serie A and it's total CL medals count for when we talk about Udinese vs Arsenal....
Udinese is a midtabel Serie A team normally, and that is what they will be this season i am afraid, just like Sampdoria of last season. While Arsenal is a top club in Premier League, so it should ease through this tie, there should be no doubt about that.
