Re: 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion
United need signings and they need it fast, they won't have the luxury of everyone being shit every season, they did the same in 2021-22. Half of that starting eleven is deadwood. Erik ten Hag has done a unbelievable job by grinding 3 points each week getting third. 7-0 was amazing but a huge win was hardly surprising.

If anything, he got rid of some of the deadwood and added Casemiro and Martinez, which should've strengthened the team substantially, and yet they barely finished above Newcastle in third. Where did you predict they would end up on the table this season?

I see Partey is off to Saudi. Given that he was huge for Arsenal's season, I take this to mean that not even Arsenal believes in his innocence as it was once claimed.

So will Havertz play as the leading 9 for Arsenal?

I doubt it. Will be interesting to see how they fit him in, he's clearly a central player and I see no reason to start him over Odegaard or Jesus, so I guess those 3 will rotate.
As last season proved, you need legit talent ready to step up when you lose a player to injury and that is where they fell behind City, so very refreshing to see Arsenal going for it.

Arsenal are losing Partey and Xhaka so depth wise probably be about the same

Rice would be great for Arsenal but City ffs They just don't care, Buy Kalvin for 50 million, doesn't work out, let's just get Rice for 100.
How do you even compete with that. Maybe by spending 65 for Havertz to improve the bench

I mean.. they will most likely sell Kalvin if Rice comes. Bayern is reportedly interested in Kalvin
How do you compete? Drop out of europa early and put all your eggs in the PL basket
Alternatively, sign better players than PL flop Flopvertz

Re: 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion
Thank you no problem. As you can see, money helps but it's not everything. Obviously to win a treble you need money. But reducing this to just money is feeble. It's a mixture of many many things. Chelsea and Utd can compete and try competing but still fail. So there is no single, definitive answer. Arsenal have spent the last decade+ outside of CL so it's a long shot to expect them to compete consistently now, they've overachieved last season.
I think once Pep leaves, only then you'll really start to appreciate the work that he's doing. City will remain more or less up there but nowhere near as dominant REGARDLESS of what they spend.

Money isn't everything but it is by far the biggest predictor of success in football .There is a reason the list of the top 10 highest spending managers since 2010 is more or less the exact same list of managers with most trophies since 2010

Re: 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion
The way I see it, the team with the most overall talent has the highest likelihood of winning. Money doesn't necessarily get you the right level of talent, and the team also has to play cohesive football, which is another thing that money doesn't necessarily guarantee. If I had to list 3 things that are the most important for a team's success, they would be:
1. Money
2. Scouting/team building/DoF
2/3. Tactics/team management
Man City has all 3 of those things at a high level. Txiki Begiristain is an unsung hero who deserves far more credit than he gets, in my opinion.

Re: 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion
What kind of circus is going on at Chelsea. Their fans are gloating that they have sold almost all of their deadwood/fringe players. They have raised like 200+ on sales. But when I look at that squad apart from a somewhat decent defense almost all their positions are either mediocre/severely short. Even with the impending Caicedo transfer their midfield will be like Enzo, Caicedo and Gallagher (who again they are looking to sell it seems. Spurs etc are interested in him). Pure madness.
And their attack will have Mudryk, Sterling, Nkunku and Madueke + some youth players like Broja. Again so much lacking there. Now imagine them in pure Boehly fashion going on a spending spree and buying all kinds of wonderkids like Cherki and all. They are hoping that such inexperience when added to a squad of players who simply flattered to deceive last season, is going to automatically elevate them into a top 5 finish next season? That too under a manager like Poch who normally needs time to work his magic. All I can see is a recipe for disaster. What am I missing here?
Edit: I forgot their new striker signing though. But still dont think thats going to change much.

Let's hope that's not a real pic from their training ground. If it is, then they really need to buy some new training bibs, rather than use old ones that you'de see a Sunday league team use.

Re: 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion
Seems like Arsenal lost the friendly against ManUtd. I think it is a good sign, whenever Liverpool have looked bad in pre season with new costly players, they have gone to do well in the season. Will Arsenal have the best squad behind City during the season, as they are still not done with new signings !
