World Cup 2022 Final: Argentina vs France

Is it true that they decide the Golden ball winner before the final? If that's the case, I think Messi's edged out Mbappe for that title. I'd rather they wait until the end of the final to make their decision though.

If they do wait until the end, then you'll have a match that will decide the golden ball, golden boot, and Ballon d'or.

I find it interesting how the best players of each decade have played 2 WC finals during their careers:

Pele: 58 & 70
Beckenbauer: 66 & 74
Maradona: 86 & 90
Ronaldo: 98 & 02
Zidane: 98 & 06
Messi: 14 & 22
Mbappe: 18 & 22

Cruyff made the finals in 1974, but pulled out for Netherlands in 1978 and Netherlands made it to the final that year as well. So he could've been on this list too. That list is a unique trend.

Mbappe shouldn't be Messi's competition for the golden ball if it's decided before the final imo.

Griezmann has been the best French player so far. Anyway Messi would win if defined today.

It depends. If u're a top side or a side that was among the favorites to win, it's hard getting up for the third place match. But if ure a team nobody expected, and you surprised yourself as well, guys will be serious enough to at least leave with a medal. Also some teams give guys who barely got a game a chance to play

Konate (along with Griezmann) was the best French players on the pitch. Without him they probably concede a goal.

Upamecano was awful against England as well. Like legit bad enough that could've cost them if not for referring and Kane's penalty miss.

Konate has been the best defender on the pitch in all 3 matches he's started for France this tournament. I think Deschamps would be making a huge error dropping Konate for the final, if he does that.

Rabiot, I agree with. He's been very solid and should be starting the final.

He didn’t play that final. He got injured in the second game of the group stage.

Mbappe has been a bit poor these last two games in the WC, yet they reached the final, Messi has been playing amazing which has led them there. 8 of 11 goals for Argentina have come from Messi direct contribution, he has an off game, France shut him down or a mixture of both and Argentina are in trouble.

How can a team reach WC final depending on only one player? Your comment is unjust to others who delivered superbly to help Messi get here. Molina and Alvarez's goals now look so simple and are easily ignored. Even though in the past the supporting casts missed sitters. You remove the contributions of Martinez (two of them), Alvarez, Molina and a few others, do Argentina go past the knockout stages? Messi has three assists because through were converted. This team is superbly low in profile but highly efficient. That's one thing they are heavily dependent on Messi. They are genuinely outperforming themselves due to the influence of Messi. Argentina is not dependent on one man but they are surely playing for one man and I consider that as a strength, not as a weakness. You may shut Messi but I doubt you can't shut his influence.

It's the final and Argentina are still getting underestimated. This whole cycle they have been ubraten for almost a record number of matches. Won the Copa America and are now in the WC final.

Still some talk like they are there by chance.

France has the most talented team. It's obvious, everyone can see that. BUT they have not been the team playing best in the tournament, Argentina has been better. France wins by the weight of their talent, not because of particularly great team play. England pushed them and got very close. Let's if Argentina can overcome that barrier.
