If you have enough overall quality on the team, you can get away with a lot of things, like your manager being in hospital for cancer treatment Laughing I don't remember how long Tito Vilanova was away for, but I still can't get over how well that Barca team performed without a manager. They never seemed to get any credit for it.

Now you’re just being a contrarian lol..

Yeah he’s 36 but quite frankly it’s a very easy fix, he is a superb athlete but as a CF you’re gonna have to use your body to fend off CBs and right now he’s not doing that. If riyad Mahrez who’s built like a damn twig has better hold up play because he’s actually not afraid to get between the ball and the opponent and doesn’t get injured, no one can convince me Ronaldo can’t do the same.

Also cas, agreed. Ronaldo is pressing now anyways. That discussion was so stupid my brains were melting. Clearly, Ole is a Sunday league coach and once rangnick came the pressing has turned into much more coherent play.

Also, rashford is an abomination.. so I feel for Ronaldo, but I’m not gonna keep giving him the benefit of the doubt

The pressing style is going to be impossible for CR. He has to be the one triggering it. Not sure how he's going to do that consistently.

all im saying @FFox is that expecting a 36 year old Ronaldo to put his body on the line when he has never done it before in his entire life against PL defenders who do it week in-week out is a bit of a fantasy. It ain't happening, and if it happens a bit, it'll take away energy from his only best attribute - running to get into good positions for counters. It's a catch-22, my friend.

Seriously?

Ronaldo might be a grandpa right now, fair enough.

but wow, what a poor take

@elG and @sports, we’ll see. After the winter break we’ll have a clear vision of the team’s fitness levels. As it stands it looks like they’re quite poor

You quoted “how did we win three CLs” with those two when those two were instrumental in each CL we’ve won

It’s not like Ronaldo was defending as a winger off the ball during Madrid’s CL wins.

He’d drop next to Benzema and form the first line of 2 with Di Maria/Isco covering the left. Ronaldo didn’t defend in front of his fullback since the Mourinho days.

Him defending as part of the front two was Carlo’s best contribution. It never made sense to me why you would have the best outlet in the world play deeper. It’s better to play him as close to the opposition goal as possible.

exactly. It’s like complaining about messi’s defending. These guys win teams games singlehandedly.

He hates Ronaldo with a burning passion because in his mind, he held benzema back when in reality benzema just started actually showing up to pre season in shape and not fat, and funny enough, Ronaldo was the one who gave him tips on staying fit. Fitness and confidence was always benzema’s problem. The Benz-CR partnership was mutualistic, not parasitic. He’s basically the alexjanosik of the madrid section (although alex is actually very smart when it comes to football, he’s just a blind messi hater)

The Ronaldo-Benz argument never made sense to me. Yes, if you’re going to play with an inside forward as your reference up front then your CF’s going to have to change his game. They will have to be supplementary players rather than the finishing type. Firmino does that for Salah right now.

Ultimately it worked out. I mean Madrid won 4 CL’s in 5 years with three of them in a row. Getting the best out of Ronaldo meant that Benzema had to sacrifice his game, but in the end it worked out. Why are some Madrid fans so hung up about that?

Are they hurt that Benzema wasn’t appreciated because he did that? Do they think if Ronaldo sacrificed his game a bit and gave Benz more shine Madrid would’ve won more than they did?

Completely agreed, and both answers are a yes. It’s funny because I’ve always been a giant Benz fanboy myself.

The truth was, Benzema’s hold up play was some of the best in the world and his playmaking was world class. Ronaldo actually had good hold up play himself and his link up with Benz was always class. In addition, Ronaldo was actually a really good crosser of the ball, and back then he was a good 1v1 dribbler. Both were comfortable on the wings which is a very important trait of a two man forward partnership. Overall their chemistry was mutually beneficial, not parasitic.

If anything, we lost la liga titles due to our defense having awful defensive lapses. When we got KCM, things changed and we were able to put a very strong hold and control of the game. Casemiro I’d say was the biggest difference.

City making easy work of Leeds. They are playing through Leeds' press easily since they're fielding their best on the ball players. Such a press resistant bunch out there right now.

Rodri is City's most improved player this season.

Most of his team is injured and Leeds have been playing championship players for two years now. It’s the other way around.
