Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
FC Bayern wrote:
FC Bayern have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach. The Bavarian-born 33-year-old will move to Munich from RB Leipzig on 1 July 2021 ahead of the new season, signing a five-year-contract with the German record champions until 30 June 2026.
This comes after FC Bayern agreed to current head coach Hansi Flick’s request to have his contract terminated on 30 June 2021, two years earlier than its original expiry date.

It's official.
Flick's contract dissolved, we're paying RB reportedly 15m € plus potential addons.

The 30-year-old has drawn plenty of praise for what he has done with Hoffenheim despite his tender age and on the weekend his side defeated the champions 2-0.
It follows up a 1-0 victory last season that saw him lead his team to fourth in the Bundesliga.
Despite being knocked out of the Champions League qualifying round by Liverpool, Nagelsmann is still one of the most sought-after managers in the world and has been mooted as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern.
Speaking to Eurosport, Nagelsmann mentioned his closeness to Munich as a city but he stressed nothing has been agreed.
"Well, it is definitely of importance to me. I am from or rather have lived in Munich for many years.
"Originally I am from Landsberg am Lech which isn’t far away from Munich. My wife and my kid are going to move to Munich soon, we are building a house; therefore we do have a close bond to this area. It is our home.
"And even if I am not going to coach FC Bayern München I will still be a happy person whenever I do die. I am very, very happy with my life. And FC Bayern might even make me a little happier, but that doesn’t say that my happiness depends on FC Bayern."

My only hope is that Bayern hire a personal costume designer for him because his outfits are repulsive

Of course he will. Flick was a half season wonder. Bayern was his first and last top flight job.
Nagelsmann will be era defining. Will end up the greatest and most decorated manager in football history

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
I like Hans' vibe.
Personally not a huge Nagelsmann fan, but he's obviously a great fit.
Though I have to say, when he coached Hoffenheim he lived near me, and that kid will have to do some adapting to fit in at Bayern. Drank fucking Apfelschorle everywhere he went, better get that Paulaner taste, son!

Another Hans hypejob. Will probably win Bundesliga like I would if I were in charge, and not much else.
Nothing to see here

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
I mean on that front, yeah, at Bayern you need to win more than the league.
Even one-hit wonders like that fraud Pep Guardiola won the league, which is easy if you're outspending all your competition, just look at City, where he's bought himself the domestic title.
It is when you look at the Champions League where you'll be really tested. But I can see Nagelsmann achieving something there.

Absolute natural. Will dominate European football at will and with ease.
And will do so with players like Marc Roca, Mikael Cuisance, Omar Richards, Tanguy Nianzou, Christopher Scott, and last not least Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
First training in full length
huge turnover in the coaching team, all of Röhl, Klose and the legendary "Tiger" Hermann Gerland gone
Now there's
Xaver Zembrod, former DFB, Kaiserlautern, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen youth coach and assistant at Leipzig
(fun fact - when Zembrod was youth coach at Hoffenheim >10 years ago, Nagelsmann was his assistant lmao)
Benjamin Glück, young video analyst and Nagelsmann assistant at Leipzig as well as before at Hoffenheim, as well as
Dino Toppmöller, also Nagelsmann assistant at Leipzig, named after Dino Zoff and son of legendary manager Klaus Toppmöller, of 2002 CL final fame, famous runner-up in BuLi, Cup and CL 2002 with Lucio, Ballack, Ze Roberto, Neuville

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
some complicated shit going on in that training
first the intricate multiple and moving 5 against 2 at 45:00
and then, 2 teams plus 2 different kinds of contact players, 8 separate goals
@The Franchise can you explain to me wtf is going on in that exercise at 1:20:00 ?!
apparently practicing playing out the back, pressing, passing and scoring all in one

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
It looks really good, I like this concept already and I have only watched 2 minutes. Now i have seen this im going to have to watch the entire session at some point, perhaps more than once
Seems to be working on multiple things, which obviously is ideal. Offensive organsation (build up, posession) and defensive transition (counter pressing) for the black. White's in this stage defensive organisation aswell as offensive transition.
I dont know if the drill progressed further but in the first 2 minutes, i got the following from it;
Ball starts with 5 Black players build up in one "half" vs 5 white white. Yellow vest make 5+1v5 when in possession.
Nobody can enter the center circle, one target player (goalkeeper) inside. 5 Black tries to enter the ball into this area or play around the white players to progress the ball forward to the other side. It could be possible the mini goals are also obstacles for the 5+1 to avoid. Perhaps placed strategically to simulate where covering players could be. If the black can get the ball into the middle circle, the goalkeeper switches the side to the 3. 2 players join to create 5 on that side again.
If the white steal the ball, they are looking to immediately score in the mini goals (offensive transition) as the black try to react to stop them (defensive transition).
Great drill, may have to steal it tbh.

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
Yeah I think the inner minigoals function both as pass-blocking obstacles for the GK to play out and as goals for the pressing team
Also seems to be a difference what can happen in the game between the GK passing the ball or catching and throwing it
Commentator didn't get it and gave up after while, as did I, players seem to take a few minutes too, so thatnks for that explanation

Re: Julian Nagelsmann Sack Watch
Welcome.
Good point, allowing it to play on a little, I noticed the goalkeeper often catching and throwing rather than playing with his feet.
But yeah, I really liked it, these drills (hate that term but cant think of a better one right now) usually look a chaotic mess to start with and the players themselves often can look lost and hesitant as you said. Even coaches often dont get them and I have learnt from experience the worse thing you can do is watch another coaches session and make big assumptions about the quality of the players or even the coaches ideas. I often think the more chaotic and disorganised a session looks, the more learning is actually happening as the players try and adapt their mindset to what they are being asked for in a bigger scale.
But within the chaos there are some clearly defined things going on. Nagelsmann is clearly special and the drill is very rich, in terms of working on so many different aspects at once so effectively. As i said, I am going to have to steal this and adapt it.

Casciavit wrote:Any word on what formation he plans to play, Hans?
answeres the question at 11 minutes in the press conference above (simultaneous translation is sadly crap though)
he's "not coming to turn things upside down", it's not about "players having to play a back three" but about "being flexible" and finding the "right position for the players", will probably stay with the 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 at the start (Hernandez still out, for example)
I'm wary of three man defense formations for the simple fact that it means one less midfielder or attacking midfielder on the pitch
but if he can play Lucas st LCB and Süle at RCB, with attacking wingbacks like Davies and even Coman or Gnabry, Sülinho making runs, Lucas making forays, I will be ok.
If the 3 man defense bends towards a one man defense (as it was under Pep) rather than towards a 5 man defense, that is.

Just lost 2-0 to Napoli
Nagelsmann made changes behind the scenes since he arrived. The dressing room has a new design and the players now have to download "Hudl", an app used by sports teams allowing the players to rewatch the coach's speeches [@SPORTBILD] https://t.co/mCeCgjCbIc
