How good is Julian Weigl?
20 year old already establishing himself in the starting line up for Tuchel ahead of the likes of Bender, Castro. Looks very comfortable on the ball. Has great composure. Works perfectly within the team function allowing Kagawa, Gundogan, and Mikey to do their thing ahead of him.
Doesn't look like Sahin is getting back into this team when fit either.
What do you think?

Julian Weigl
Supposedly this kid Weigl is quite talented. I've heard some say he's the Busquets in Tuchel Dortmund.
Anyways there some interest from us and City put a 19M offer for him.
Pep is supposedly an admirer also.

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
I thought Julian Weigl merits a thread of his own instead of only being mentioned en passant in the Leroy Sané thread.
Dortmund signed the 20 year old DM/CM from 1860 München in Summer 2015, and he's looking like another raw diamond. IMO he'd best stay at Dortmund for a while longer as his chances to develop properly are best where he gets regular playing time.

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
Would be ridiculous to sell him now, as it would be ridiculous for him to leave.
He's only just starting and also unexpectedly blossoming under Tuchel.
He's not going to have it as good anywhere else, surely he knows that.
People keep forgetting, or ignoring, that Dortmund need great players much more than they need money.
Generally speaking the sparsity of truly great players and the high amount of money in football makes it much less sensible to sell top players.

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
Yea, he is the closest player to Busquets in terms of playing style and role that I've seen. The funny thing is that his previous clubs fans where glad they got rid of him as they said he did nothing and was accused of side passing and what not.
Good player if used correctly in the right system, like most players I suppose

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
He's very good, I haven't watched Dortmund in a couple of months but I watched them a lot for first 2 or 3 months of the season and he was extremely impressive.
The Busquets comparisons are apt in terms of style of play but also at the time it's unfair to him but yeah he's really good.

Saw him and very impressed I must say. Barca could use youngster like this imo. But as Hans says he better stay at Dortmund for a while its better for him.

They don't need him anyway, Kimmich is better

Not seen Kimmich much to judge but whatever little I saw him I would definitely prefer Weigl over him

If you're talking Dortmund, they mostly find them at Mainz or 1860 Munich.

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
Sadly, he has broken his ankle today.
I really hope he comes back from this soon and strong as ever, as he's such an exciting young player.
But I'm afraid that's a serious injury.

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
5 years later, Weigl has crept back to the top
a new life at Benfica, fresh in the CL quarters and about to kick Liverpool out,
and to day he's back starting for the German NT in the friendly against Israel

Re: How good is Julian Weigl?
I was really disappointed when he sorta disappeared, glad he's made his way back to the sort-of top!
Man a lot of people of the Goretzka generation kinda disappeared. Remember Meyer?
Also I'm sure there was another DM/CM kinda player besides Weigl and Goretzka I'm currently forgetting....
