Converted 4 group chats to Signal today
Have had the app for over a year but no one to talk on it to, until Elon sent them
Arguably, messenger oder better said facebook messenger is even worse than whatsapp. I'm riding the signal wave like you, converted 5 of the whatsapp brigade to signal, Threema costs money, would be too much for it. I'm loving it

what?
I have a large group of Russian friends who refuse to download Whatsapp and only use Telegram. So we need to coordinate on three apps whenever there is a plan.
I was annoyed since Whatsapp is apparently the most popular in Russia and they told me no one there uses it and will refuse to do even though the French agreed to come onto whatsapp from messenger to make lives easier
telegram is no better than whatsapp, they just save stuff in Russian servers. Choose yourself which is the lesser evil. As a smart Russian, I'd prefer whatsapp to telegram in Russia. Well, life doesn't work that way
This is the best messenger from my POV if you really care about your privacy:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.threema.app&hl=gsw&gl=US
By the way, SMS communication isn't encrypted. SMS may be intercepted by a man in the middle attack next door.
You saying all my russian friends are dumb bruh?

Yep if Zucker wants to look at my nudes I say let him jerk it!

Now, imagine you want to take a credit for a car or a house and the bank has got access to your previous residence, how you lived, how much you earned and what underlying medical conditions you have. What if you're being interviewed and the employer sees all of your excesses or outbursts in your private life when you were 18-20. What if a product you buy online is offered at a higher price to you because whatsapp/facebook analytics tell you earn a lot, you can afford it and so on..
In case of data, if you offer a hand they'll rip your arm. Ever thought why whatsapp doesn't cost anything? I think most people would pay 1€ per year if their privacy would be secure but for some reason data brings more money than a subsciption. You ought to think who buys it, at what cost and how the raw material is amortized ? Apparently, they make more than they lose with that model.

exactly lol
people are stupid if they think Signal won't also collect their data... also the more popular an app gets the more data collection has to happen for app maintenance and improvement.. and people will inevitably report bad behaviour or whatever people like to complain about these days, so there will be a way for the all-seeing eye to view all the info

If someone high in power wants to spy on you, there is nothing you can do to stop them. Even Tor isn't safe if government really wants to know what you are doing.
But they don't care what you do as long as it isn't threatening them. Is your privacy compromised? absolutely. It has been this way since forever. Methods have changed but the idea hasn't. Centuries ago people were trained to spy on you. Now it's just technology

I use WhatsApp and I couldn't care less who corporation is spying on me Ive nothing to hide and lets be honest it happens as it is.

Telegram is my secondary one.

I couldn't care less about the gouvernment sneaking around. They'd get info about me anyways if I'm of interest to them. I just don't want everyone and their mother to know all about me without my consent.
I already gave examples where leaked private info could lead to misfortune like not getting a credit, not getting hired, paying higher prices for the same product online than others etc.
Those exploits are on a different level compared to an ad shown here and there.

Conspiracy theorists worried about 5G microchips in their neck meanwhile all of them already have one in their pockets- the smartphone, more than sufficient for Bill Gates to control anyone.

Re: Whatsapp mass exodus
Whatsapp is massively popular in Italy, everyone has it, I was surprised when I had read that Scandinavians aren't used to use it.
But personally I rather Telegram ,better app for me, even though it's niche conversely here, underrated and it's beyond me why

Feds aren't the problem, facebook selling your data to other non state owned companies is the problem. Obviously, they earn more money with your data than a subscription based model. I don't think feds pay anything

It's really not about the govt stealing on you, but about FB giving your personal data to any half-reputable company out there. They haven't proved to be good stewards of it.
