Everyone uses Messenger and phone SMS in USA anyway.

Use both Whatsapp and Telegram

I use facebookmessenger and regular SMS. Whatsapp isn't popular in my ends

Noticed this cultural change tbh when I moved to France. Russians use only Telegram. French only use Messenger. Chinese use only Wechat.

Me, all of my coworkers and family use Threema. Whatsapp is there for the backward compability, I don'trelly use it.

EU data isn't allowed to be shared with Facebook and used in Europe.They still can store the data in servers outside of EU and share them with facebook outside of EU.

Also, common sense tells me, free stuff cannot be without quirks.

Most people here use messenger. Only reason I downloaded Whatsapp was because some people I met while on holiday in Spain, asked me if I had it.

But the map checks out as of now. Messenger was a forced download for me in France, had to reactivate FB to use it to contact my French friends

I've been in whatsapp thrall for a while, but mainly out of lack of choice, so digging the exodus to Signal

Still, a few things bother me.

On the signal desktop app I don't see any of my mobile conversations... what's the point of the desktop app?

It also didn't carry over my prior MMS conversations. I looked at a bug related to this and their devs said that it's because MMS is obsolete. Agreed... but still used in the US. Smh.

Personally, I love WhatsApp. Its clean and easy to use unlike Messenger or the others. Its everything you want to use in a Chat app with the most limited amount of UX to give you the best result and least internet and battery usage.

Arguably, messenger oder better said facebook messenger is even worse than whatsapp. I'm riding the signal wave like you, converted 5 of the whatsapp brigade to signal, Threema costs money, would be too much for it. I'm loving it

telegram is no better than whatsapp, they just save stuff in Russian servers. Choose yourself which is the lesser evil. As a smart Russian, I'd prefer whatsapp to telegram in Russia. Well, life doesn't work that way

By the way, SMS communication isn't encrypted. SMS may be intercepted by a man in the middle attack next door.

I mostly use Telegram, but also WhatsApp for some people and groups who just are on there (sister's family for example, I won't go around missionizing about what app to use), and then I also have Signal for a couple more hipsterish friends

I know I'm in the minority here but I have always thought that normal people shouldn't worry too much about messaging services collecting their info. I'm not the CEO of a very large company nor do I plan on running for president.

If I was the government and I was looking for someone to spy on, I wouldn't really waste time spying on someone like me. I'm not that important, and it's also the case for 99% of the world's population.
