They got 4 deflected goals that game. Just a freak game. Us still being on top shows us why.

They hit the post a couple times too iirc. Honestly, with better finishing they could have scored 10

They did have unreal luck, but I've never seen a worse defensive performance in the EPL. Defensively up there with 8-2 and 7-1 Brazil

Pool are having a very Leicester esque year right now. Performances aren't very good, but they're grinding out the wins just barely

And we say the same when Barcelona loses 1-0 with 95% possession against Celtic, they could have scored 10. We can spend days and nights with if and buts, they scored 7 and that's why we look at the what happened rather than fantasizing. 3-4 deflected goals, Adrian gave them a headstart, Salah penalty was denied. Won't happen again.

The point is that Pool were thoroughly outclassed, in a 7-1 Brazil, 8-2 Barcelona type of game. Pool were unlucky about the deflections, but they were also lucky they weren't embarrassed further.

All things being equal, 7-2 was a fair result for the game based on the play of both teams. Don't try and save face, just own it.

Was it a freak game? Yeah, but it was also an indication of Liverpool's weakness this year.

That is a bold prediction. I didn’t see their match against Brighton, but I don’t think it’s any indication of how likely they are to win the league. I also don’t think they have the overall strength to win the league. Liverpool and Man City may look weaker than how we’re used to seeing them, but I’m sure they’ll find their feet soon enough.

Basing it on the season so far, not one game. Some bad luck cost them 4 points or else they'd be top of the table now. But their depth is bad, if Kane or Son get injured, they are pretty much screwed.

Liverpool's depth will become decently clear in the next PL game with City away. Goat league, anything can happen.

Murderball being undone by Rodgers-ball. Leicester have been lethal on the counter this season. You don't normally expect a Rodgers team to play this way but it's really worked so far.

Tielemans provides long-range threat, Maddison can play the killer pass, and now they've got Under's unpredictability. Dangerous team.

Exactly. They have Son, Kane and arguably Reguilon as well, who are all top players in their positions, but if they get injured, it’s straight back to mediocrity. They also have some good players in Lucas, Ndombele and Bergwijn. I’m a particularly big fan of Ndombele’s potential, but I wouldn’t bet on the those three to pick up the mantle if Son gets injured, and when Kane gets injured Laughing

I don’t think anyone rates their defense. Recently, they marginally beat everyone’s favorite bully victim, Brighton, and they lost against almighty, Antwerp in the Europa League. Son and Kane can do a lot on their own, but I think there’s too much mediocrity in the team to challenge for any trophies. Quite similarly to Man United, who, in my opinion, don’t have a single player of Son and Kane’s quality.

Funniest part is that Kane and Son partnership has been a thing since 2.5 seasons now, suddenly it's supposed to win the league.

Just normal PL knee jerks, Villa was supposed to finish top 4 with Leeds finishing in the top 6 with them playing a equivalent high scoring game as a top 4 decider. Nothing is going to change, 1 month down and all these posts get washed down like usual. The top 4 contenders will be the same: Liverpool, City, Chelsea and one surprise for the the top 4 finishes, maybe Leicester unless Rodgers bottles it again during the end.

Yeah, I completely agree. To be fair, though, Tottenham have strengthened their midfield recently. Unfortunately for them, Alderwereld isn’t getting any younger, and they still have friggin Dier on their books. I just don’t think they have the right balance to be a trophy contender.

It would help if Gareth Bale miraculously rediscovers some of his prime form, but even if that were to happen, it’s evident that he no longer has quite the same explosiveness. And then, there’s his fragile physique.

Even more so than individual quality, consistency is what typically makes a winning team, and I really don’t see enough potential for it in this Tottenham side.
