Re: Your best films of the decade
I just did a quick Google search like "Google 2010", Google 2011" etc. to figure out what came out in that particular year. No idea if Google forgot something important or is even accurate. But here it goes:
2010: Shutter Island (just love the theme of that movie, even though Inception is "bigger")
2011: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
2012: Flight (Django and Life of Pi are more "blockbuster" but hey)
2013: Prisoners (Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, Wolf of Wall Street also came out that year, incredible)
2014: Interstellar by a distance (Nightcrawler 2nd)
2015: The Marsian
2016: Arrival
2017: John Wick 2 (no fucks given)
2018: A Quiet Place (lol @ like 30 superhero movies suggested all of a sudden)
2019: Joker (haven't seen OUATIH nor Irishman yet)

Re: Your best films of the decade
LADS! Finally I can give you my compilation video for the decade. After some trials and tribulations in the form of me having to verify my account to upload a 15+ min video and being copyright cock-blocked for featuring Golden Earring's Radar Love in the original vid i finally got it up and open to the public on YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kX4ydx0t8Y
The Top 30 countdown starts at 5:26
720p quality is the best I can do for now because it was impossible to find higher quality footage for some of the earlier films of the decade that don't have any watermarks on them
My top 5 is also different from the one i posted a while back because i god-thankfully rewatched Take Shelter
Here's the Letterboxd list with top 10 acting performances included: https://letterboxd.com/o_cav/list/2010s-a-decade-in-film/
Enjoy and comment on the list
--------
Each year:
2010 - Inception
2011 - Take Shelter
2012 - The Dark Knight Rises
2013 - Inside Llewyn Davis
2014 - Citizenfour
2015 - MM: Fury Road
2016 - Arrival
2017 - Blade Runner 2049
2018 - ROMA
2019 - Knives Out
I'm thinking Uncut Gems might still be the only film left i haven't watched from 2019 that might break into the list

I've seen very few this year too, but Joker would not be near #1 this year personally. I have it at about 7.8-ish which isnt all that great. Great performance by Jouaqin but overall? hmm

I watched Knives Out this week. Easily my favorite movie of 2019 so far. Absolutely edges Joker/Parasite/Endgame for the top spot this year.
I don't get the hate for Joker on GL. Almost everyone I've spoken to irl loved it and rates as one of the better films of the year. Joaquin's performance alone makes it so memorable. One of the best acting performance in years.

joker would have been a good film if it was a serious film on mental illness.

Makes sense. He didn't hit every time for me. But it's hard to find anyone who has his quality of movies combined with his prolificness. The dude directed 6 acclaimed movies in 7 years. That's absolutely wild.

Why doesn't Interstellar make your lists? Every moment for me was overwhelming.

Re: Your best films of the decade
Felt like interstellar dragged and was too long for it's own good. It should've cut down the exposition to make it a tighter story.
Still hugely impressive, and not sure who I would pick as a better movie for the year. Whiplash, perhaps.

Re: Your best films of the decade
I disagree there, every moment in the film was key to the final. They did stretch out Mann's part I would agree but that also showed the notion where people were willing to make sacrifices incomprehensible at first to achieve the goal of survival. After that, literally the entire story fell into place from start to bottom imho

Re: Your best films of the decade
The statements "the movie dragged" and "all scenes were necessary for the payoff at the end to work" are not mutually exclusive. But ideally you would be able to get to the 2nd piece without having to go through the 1st.
