The Modric-Casemiro-Kroos midfield couldn't even last 10 mins against a big team. We play that trident against Barca and it's curtains for us

Valverde was on a yellow.  That's why he was taken out.  It's a pretty standard decision to take out players on yellows at the end of games where you're already qualified.  We need everyone for the elimination round games.

The way he plays, Valverded could easily get another yellow or even a red (1-2 game suspension).

Also, up 2-0, that shouldn't even matter.

You’re probably right in saying that we don’t need him right now, but he’s 21 and widely considered to be the most established and experienced performer in his age group. His price will increase as he improves with age, so our interest makes sense.

With his replacement being Modric of course it matters

Yeah, Valverde being on a yellow is not much of an excuse as I've seen Zidane keep many players on yellows for the whole match. The great man has certain subs he makes and doesn't actually budge from what is an automated action eg. Lucas Vasquez coming on around the 70th minute.

Like I said, there are way more positives than negatives to take from this but at the same time, Varane really needs to get his shit together and Zidane needs to stop with the KCM, no longer viable in big games or even slightly big games.

So you're up 2-0 at the 80th minute... you're saving Valverde from getting suspended and you bring in Modric (not some 18 year old nobody)... how can you criticize that? If it was at the 65th minute, sure. But 80th and up 2-0 at the Bernabeu.

PSG aren't winning anything anyhow and we weren't going to catch them for 1st place even with a win as they would have needed to lose in Paris to Galatassaray for that to happen.

This was more a gala game than anything with any real impact imo.

We did well. Isco looked better. Courtois was a problem... and btw, i think defenders not trusting Courtois is a cause for some of these mistakes. Varane hesitated because you never know if Courtois is actually going to come out. Not an excuse to make that bonehead play... but hesitation comes from uncertainty. If Navas was in there, that uncertainty doesn't exist imo.

Varane is way too experienced to be making such indecisions and if it were Ramos, well, the Bernabeu booed the lil shit over the weekend for boneheaded defending so that should say all that needs to be said.

Hindsight isn't 20/20, i can understand Fede being taken off, but i would have placed Bale on the right and would have actually included Vinicius in the line up and slotted him at left after the Hazard injury. I also hope Zidane is more weary of the dangers that are implicit to Marcelo playing when we play tough games.

I've been busy so i haven't caught up as well as i could with what's going on but i find it worrying that Vinicius, Militao, and Jovic are still all nonfactors.

Thing with Pepe... until he was in his 30s, he would kick at the ball but was just as likely to almost kill the keeper or the opposing player by completely missing the ball.

Just a different type of defending.

Varane made a mistake plain and simple. He was trying to tip it away from Mbappe but it ended up hitting Courtois and bouncing right to Mbappe.

i see nothing wrong with the subs. we wet the bed defensively, that's just what happened, but i liked our attitude and happy with benzema for putting in the work in this game. the way we approached the game was very good, but the defense is unpredictable. oh and rodrygo had a moment of madness where he should have laid a pass but instead did whatever it is he did

Great game, great gameplan, Zidane created a nice surprise for Tuchel and cod have swept PSG in first half.

Meh draw great performance, still needs to be more direct, create more clear cut chances can't just rack up shot attempts from half chances and long distance shooting.

bale needs to start, there needs to be another goal scorer on the pitch that him, those goals were soft as hell, don't know why varane would make such unnecessary mistake, tibo making meal of some saves made him nervous I guess, the team is solid, the defence needs to focus more and instill confidence in each other, Ramos needs to step up as leader in these moments and calm things down, the team still can get better not a big deal.

Another couple mids that won't weaken the midfield would help, modric has to rotate with kroos only, jovic needs to get minutes soon.

Agreed. Modric should only rotate with Kroos. We take out one of the other two and we become significantly weaker
