Re: Harry Maguire - World's most expensive defender
Is it true this could happen ?
I know nothing of UK politics (if no troll i'd suppose it would be very temporary)

Not really true. No one knows what possible deal would be agreed upon at the last minute, if that, but we do know what no deal Brexit does to expats. Everyone will need a work permit.

Re: Harry Maguire - World's most expensive defender
Last I heard there were provisional agreements in place already to stall, or tolerate, or provisionally maintain, the status of EU citizens in UK and UK citizens in EU even in case of a no deal brexit.
So even if EU players would need to get some paperwork at some point, it would certainly not be overnight.
For non-EU players nothing changes anyway.
The question is how much of these agreements is cnsituted by goodwill, and how much goodwill a Boris Johnson goverment is willing to give, or able to elicit.
Don't think EU governments would punish the Brits living in their countries for the buffoonery and insolence of their POS prime minister though

I've always liked Harry Maguire and found him a good defender. Technically decent too. I think he'll fit in well at Man U. Not worth anything near what was paid for him though, my lord.

Sure, but we don't know what that process looks like or if/for how long they'll be able to work while they get this new status. They may also not be allowed to return to the UK if they travel abroad for, say, a EL or CL game until this is sorted and I would expect there to be millions of applications they are in no way able to service under short notice.rincon wrote:BarrileteCosmico wrote:No one knows tbh

Exactly, that's the uncertain part, what the UK and EU will do after a no deal Brexit. Because what is certain is the EU/UK expats will need work visas. They sure wont deport everyone thoigh, so I expect they would postpone all existing cases until they can get through them all.

These 2 matches were very very good. Have United found one of those players who they're waiting for years ?

When Boris takes a leap off the precipice and delivers Brexit with no deal, all EU players will become automatically disqualified to work. But united have thought ahead. Which is why their all English transfer season will be a matter strike,no matter the price

I genuinely dislike this guy. Ball hog and just like I always said, he is no better than Smalling as a defender.
Complete waste of money.

Goes to show how well Liverpool did to get VVD and Alisson, when Maguire and Kepa are more expensive and no where near as good.

Re: Harry Maguire - World's most expensive defender
Put him in the City team and he'd look better than Stones and Ottamendi. And on par with Lafarte while we're at it.
Re: Harry Maguire - World's most expensive defender
^ This. Eventhough he is never in a million years an 80 mil player, still he was a really good player at Leicester. One of the best center backs in the league when we bought him. Its this fking club that has no clue on what to do with their players. No coaching. No tactics. No improvement. Same with every summer signing as well who all started brightly. AWB and James have now gone down. Even the other promising players, like Martial and Shaw have collectively become wank.
So no wonder Maguire is looking like he is even worse than Phil fking Jones lately. None of his strengths are being utilised. There's no plan. Theres a reason why he looked good during his initial few games as he was simply carrying his confidence and form from Leicester. Now the guy looks so clueless and devoid of confidence. Has become ball defender who is scared to play the ball sadly. He plays like Smalling these days. Passing ball to the nearest player and looking so scared. Atleast Smalling had pace and height to fool our fans. Anyway, as danyjr has said, he will look an excellent player in a good team, like in City. Here there's nothing except Ole's smiles and a rotten management. If you are a footballer, you got to fend for yourself.

Truth is, he wasn't even top 5 CB in the league last season.
Van Dijk, Matip, Laporte, Rudiger were all clearly better and then Joe Gomez before his injury and Kompany outside his injuries were also very good last season and played at a level that Maguire has never played in his life.
I suppose you could say he was in the top 10 best CB's in the league but it was ridiculous paying 80m for a guy who at best was 7th best CB in the league.
Man Utd recruitment team probably thought since van Dijk came from Southampton for a lot of money, Maguire would be the same coming from Leicester because he's the same size as Virgil or whatever (I can't even pretend to understand the logic).
The reality was that in 2016-17 Van Dijk was already clearly the best CB in the Premier League if anyone bothered to actually watch Southampton that season. The only 3 close to him that season were Alderwireld, Matip, and David Luiz. That was the season Kompany was injured nearly the whole season. Leicester league winning Huth and Morgan fell off a cliff side. And David Luiz and Gary Cahill were leading Chelsea to the title.
Another thing with Van Dijk was that Netherlands missed out on 2016 Euros so nobody got to watch him at the international stage and nobody watched Southampton. But he was already that good before we signed him and anyone who scouted him had very ample evidence of his potential and his current heights that he could possibly reach.
With Maguire, his stock shot through the roof with the World Cup and he got overrated way too quickly in the English game to his own detriment. I think he's a solid CB but not one of the best in the league, not even close.
