He's coming home. While he was instrumental for Barcelona in the first 3-4 years, he was never as important as he was for Sevilla. Good move for all parties involved.

Free??? I saw its 1.5 M somewhere. Anyway, agree that he should have been sold a long time ago. Did we ever do a good business in the transfer market?

Yeah, the official statement says 1.5M now and 9M in installments.

I shouldn't be but this is insane. He is worth €5 million at the very least. I'm sure many clubs will be prepared to pay that much for him so it would be idiotic not to ask for it.

Problem is the wages. We pay wages atleast 50% higher than the next best wage paying club. For really old grandpas who are comfortable collecting their paycheck. And then after a season, we want to get rid when we realize that the player is not performing. Now we have a problem. The buying club knows we are desperate to sell to get rid of the wages. The player and the buying club hold all the leverage.
Put a wage structure in place and you will see us selling our players for good amounts too.

I don't understand why a club with prestige like Barça has to pay more than other big clubs to attract players. Something doesn't add up with your argument.

Barca have the highest wage bill in Europe. That is because the core of the team have been there for many years and are on long term contracts.

Messi, Pique, Alba, Busquets, Suarez, Rakitic, Ter Stegen etc all have been at the club for atleast 5 years or more and that would mean multiple contract extensions during the course of this period, in Messi's and Pique's cases for example for a longer time ofcourse.

And considering most of these players are 28 or older, they'd be looking for their last big contract which the club will be compelled to give thanks to their success over the years. The older the squad, the larger will be the wage bill.

It doesn't have anything to do with why Barca have to pay more than the other big clubs. It's why Barca are in this situation every season in the first place. It's just poor recruitment. Besides if you remove Messi alone, the wage bill goes down significantly by some €100M gross. Now that's a huge figure.

So jury out on whether Suarez and Vidal will leave. Suarez demanding $25m and Vidal $5m. Both no doubt emboldened by Messi staying.
Unbelievable mismanagement. Smart thing would have to do a player cum transfer fee swap with City. Get Silva, Jesus and cash for Messi. Get rid of Suarez, Vidal and Busquets. And rebuild. Squad would have been transformed in 1 window. Instead, we get status quo.
Hope Koeman does the right thing and benches all seniors. Train them like dogs. Run them ragged to the ground every single day in training and then bench them on match days.

Seems Koeman didnt make the message clear enough to the seniors. They are staying despite him saying that they are not needed. Let's hope he at least has the balls to bench the seniors.

Every article since Koeman joined claimed that he personally wanted Suarez sold and I'm more inclined to believe this spin: it's actually Bartomeu, not Koeman who wants Luisito gone.

Honestly, I think coaches usually want to train with the players before deciding who to cast out and whom to play, and want to have as many options as possible

That's why I'm always sceptical about those usual reports how newly arrived, or soon-to-arrive managers are about to throw out all those players, it's usually fantasy stuff

Vidal deal also seems to be off. Bartomeu really screwed up by making Messi stay. Had he left, the likes of Suarez and Vidal would have left as well.
Now, we will again see the seniors play. The promising young talent will be frozen and the football will be turgid.

Ffs, Barto and the management is so shit that they cant even offload Suarez and Vidal until now even. I guess other clubs would know how to deal with Barca these days, sell high and buy low from us since how messed up we are in terms finance and management and of players being unhappy as well... they know we are desperate I guess...

Pique and Busquets seems to be favoured still than. The former Im still happy with, for the most part hes still a top CB, as long as he maintains his focus hes too good to replace with what have atm thats for sure. So him and Lenglet is good for us. Busquets is meh though I just hope he gets a lot of rotation so that he steps back up his game as a result perhaps.
