Re: Luka Jovic
i'm not talking about next year. i'm talking this season, if jovic goes out on loan, what happens if benzema gets injured? i mean we are only one game into the season, its not like we're playing the last 8 games of last year. i think zidane wants mariano out as well, i dont know about mayoral's situation regarding if he wants to stay or not. but even if zidane doesn't like all 3 backups, it will be wise to at least keep one for the remainder of the season.....and foolish not to have any, last thing i want to see is some dumb move like having isco or another midfielder/winger play false 9

Re: Luka Jovic
I hear ya, but don’t know if Zidane does!
For the record, club tried to get rid of both Mariano and Mayoral. Mariano was to go to Benfica but wanted a reduction in his salary (he makes an astonishing 4M). He wouldn’t agree and there us no interest. Now he has tonsillitis and is supposed out for a month which will be beyond trade deadline.
Mayoral is on last year of contract and an almost deal to Valencia fell thru, likely due to Valencia near bankruptcy. Again no interest. For a mediocre CF, he isn’t worth the price especially as he will be a free transfer in 9 months.

Re: Luka Jovic
This was on Zizou, not even his biggest supporters (like me) can support this decision on leaving out Jovic (or even Mayoral) and bringing on 2 academy players in a La Liga match against one of the top sides in the league.

Re: Luka Jovic
Apparently Cavani is available as a free transfer but with a high salary (7M)! Now that would make sense for a 1 year deal, and get rid of not only Jovic, but Mariano and Mayoral.
Go for it Flo and Zidane.

€60 million well spent.
Never spend that much on a 20 year old striker. Not even Haaland.

Nothing to see here, just Zidane knowing fuck all about setting up his own team.
Still using Ancelotti's lineups from 2014

Pretty much but 3 UCL titles in a row seems to be the response to what is obviously a lack of real footballing structure.

Re: Luka Jovic
Deal is no fees, Madrid pays half of his salary for next two years. After that Florentina can renew him or sell him. If they do sell Madrid get 50% of sales revenue.
It’s a bad deal, but probably only way to write off a poor purchase.
By the way sale of Mariano has fallen apart due to player’s insistence of increasing salary from 4M to 5m plus the devaluation of Turkish currency. I suspect the only way to get rid of him is to buy out his contract (4M remaining). Again not good but likely the most probable.
And in further news, Asensio hoping for an offer from Liverpool (I think that ship has sailed as Pool has just signed Fabio Carvalho for likely same role?), and only other interested party is Milan who are angling for a cheap sale or another loan deal.
That just leaves Ceballos with only reported interest being Milan and Betis, neither of whom will be willing to meet Madrid’s price!
All around shameful exit process!

Re: Luka Jovic
It’s basically a free transfer to Fiorentina for 2 years with another 2 years option. He is off our books for good and we are getting 50% of a future resale. I hear we may pay Jovic a comp given that his salary is decreasing later…
So this is a salary dump but I love the 50% resale value. If he performs and goes to EPL it’s a nice 20-25 mil potentially

What were the transfer fees when we bought him? Even if we get something back further down the road, it still is a significant loss. However it probably was the best Flo could get, and the 50% does give some hope to get something back.
But I do think the chances of getting 20 to 25 mil are about the same as Madrid getting Bellingham in 2023!
By the way, I read that we will need a non EU spot for him? I gather UK players now need a non EU spot to play in Europe! Doesn’t this mean EPL teams are in trouble with all the Europeans and SA players they have?

Hope we never get anyone from Bundesfodder (outside of Bayern) ever again. I'd be wary of Bellingham if I were a PL club

I think Bellingham is very good for his age, but that is about it. If you take that factor out, then he is just an okay player.

Re: Luka Jovic
i forgot he cost us 60 million quid. i was thinking it was something like 24 million for some reason. i feel like the club should start putting cap figures on back ups....you shouldnt sign a back up, who u know is going to be a back up for 60 mill. i get it, a player like vinicius justifies it, but still. the idea of a back up is u can kind of find them anywhere, 60 mill doesnt imply that....oh well, im not the accountant. i have a feeling we've spent up to 100 million overall for jovic (in wages and fees)

Re: Luka Jovic
I don't think he was coming in purely as a backup. His form in the year that he came suggested that he would be challenging Benzema with a view to taking over the role, which obviously didn't pan out

Re: Luka Jovic
I don't think there's a single positive thing Luka did while at RM. I remember watching games he started when Benz was injured for a stretch when we had ZZ and I've never witnessed less pressing or moving in general in all of my life watching RM. Ronaldo is a pressing machine in comparison.
How did it go so wrong. Not like he was alone in RM. He had Modric helping him from day 1. Hazard is going to go the same way unfortunately
