Fielded an ineligible player against Levante.

Levante president says "It's not an easy situation, football people like to fight for results on the field" but says they will present their case tomorrow. So win and they're grand, lose and they will try to win the case. What do Barcelona do now?

Levante is filling a complain.

What a disester!! Real Madrid did something similar few season ago.

I was thinking the same. The person handling this regulation of suspension should be sacked immediately or May be Barca doing it intentionally. So they don't have to play two legged useless competition.

The league created a precedent when they disqualified us. If it turns out that they fielded an ineligible player they'll get disqualified 100%

I would agree but Barcelona has always put a lot of importance on the cup. If I'm not mistaken, they are the team who have won it the most in recent years (same with La Liga).

But I do agree with you that it's a worthless cup, and I wouldn't be too upset if Madrid pulled a Cheryshev again, even if it's potentially the only trophy we can dream of getting this year. Would rather finish trophyless.

Contrary to reports, Chumi's fifth yellow card sanctioning will only affect La Liga and Segunda B. He is eligible to play in the Copa del Rey and thus, Barça did not field an ineligible player against Levante. [@albert_roge]

Even if Barça fielded an ineligible player (which isn't the case), the deadline to report it is two days. The game against Levante took place on 10th Jan, one week ago. [@albert_roge]

Never understood how this can happen. Nobody double-checks ? That kind of mistake in a beer league, you would understand, but for a top club like Barca/Real it's quite particular.

In calcio the decision would go in Levante's favor, maybe in Spain it's different.

And if it turns out that Barca was in its rights to field Chumi then it's Levante who should wake up. Must know the rules if a suspension can be transferred to another club/competition hmm

Not sure why this is a “maybe.” Same thing happened to us and we were disqualified. Not that the trophy means anything.

Copa Del Rey isn't pointless, this isn't the League Cup. Secondly, pretty sure Barcelona would get off on a technicality as the deadline to bring the complaint into question was passed.

Both are these are relevant tbh, as far as i can tell there's no grounds for Barca being thrown out the competition in the way Madrid were.

Barça's defense in the Chumi case points out that, according to article 56, "A penalty must be fulfilled in the same competition", and therefore, "a player sanctioned in a competition, could play in another competition." [cadena ser]

I don't know who's in the right but the complaint was filed too late either way. Levante is clutching at straws here.
