PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot has told me that he will not sign a contract extension & that he wishes to leave the club at the end of the season, so once his current deal finishes. The consequences are very clear: he is indefinitely benched." https://t.co/ELsNJuVwoa
— Jonathan Johnson (@Jon_LeGossip) December 17, 2018
Thoughts on this particular scenario?

Good on PSG. There are times when I feel clubs push this whole "respect the contract" thing a bit too far but in this case it's all Rabiot's fault.

Re: PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
Why are they benching Rabiot for not renewing ? They must not need him very much if they do this. He wants to leave at the end of the season, he didn't say ASAP.
PSG the same ol fake thugs, just as in 2017 when Nasser said he'd never do business with Juve (because of Coman) but still sold us Matuidi some months after.

What? Lmao, the man has a contract, if PSG don't make an offer good enough to renew on why should he? In the meantime PSG retaliate for reasons entirely unrelated to performance.Cruijf wrote:Good on PSG. In a normal employment context, this would be constructive dismissal. Contract should be rescinded in these instances

Re: PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
There's only one condition where I think the club shouldn't be criticized too much for benching a wantaway elite player: if they have a decent alternative who needs game time to develop. In that case, it would be unwise to keep the replacement glued to the bench and waste time with someone who will leave at the end of the season.
If I were them though, I would still choose the established player to increase my chances of winning silverware. Benching him is certainly going to hurt him but it'll hurt the club as well.
PSG are being unprofessional here.

I feel like the manager should have a word on this as well, maybe he needs him. Anyway I don't think this will work for PSG, even if Rabiot doesn't play a game until the end of the season, he'll have big clubs coming after him.

Capello did this to Beckham at Real Madrid when he signed (ahead of time) with LA. Only played him late in season when through injuries he needed him (and Beckham played his best futbol at Madrid in those last few months).

So it's okay for clubs to not offer renewals and try to sell unwanted players, but when a player doesn't want to renew they get punished? Makes PSG look very childish.
Btw this reminded me of Emre Can. How's he doing at Juve? (A genuine question)

Of course it's at the discretion of the coaching staff to bench or not bench a player, or to include or not include him in the match day squad, but for a DoF to publicly announce that a player will not get a chance to play anymore simply based on the fact he's not signing a new contract, which is well within his rights and does not affect his current contract in anyway, sounds to me as there could well be some employment laws violated.
Just a hunch, I don't know anything about these laws, really.

Irrelevant season so far. He started well but got diagnosed with some nodes in his thyroid (?) So he had to have surgery and was out for a long time. Just came back finally and played his first minutes again.

As long as they allow him to train and pay his checks, it's fine. He can train with the CFA team.
They did the same to Ben Arfa.
I don't think PSG is run very well.

Re: PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
PSG already have quietly a soft midfield so this decision to bench Rabiot indefinitely is, well, dumb. For the very least, sign someone else or loan a guy in the meantime.
The phrase "Cutting of your nose to spite your face" is pretty relevant here.

Re: PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
He hasn't played in the last 7-8 games other than as a sub... the midfield is Marquinhos (who has looked amazing as a DM) and Veratti. Di Maria is being used the way he was at Madrid as a B2B guy. Neymar is the 10 and the strikers.
Nothing soft about them since they made the Marquinhos for Rabiot move. They were really soft with Rabiot in fact.
Other big thing is Kehrer as the RB and the pairing of Silva-Kimpembe as CBs.
Team is very well balanced and set up now. Don't need Rabiot UNLESS there's an injury.
That's why this decision doesn't have a big impact in terms of football. But they should sell him... not talk shit about him. You're just driving down the price for yourself. It's stupid.

Re: PSG sporting director Antero Henrique: "Adrien Rabiot is indefinitely benched"
So he is a bench player anyway and if he doesn't want a new contract as a bench player he is getting benched indefinitely as a result?
Great logic by Arab Saint Germain.

Dont know whose fault this is.... just strange, what Im more interested in if we Barca are showing interest in him now, or what other clubs are, he is a very good midfielder I think, and would strengthen any squad.
