I liked it quite a bit and I generally don't like anthologies all that much as they can be very disjointed. There was a great harmony to this one though. It was a typical Coen work with the dark humor and unfortunate fates of the characters. Very well acted and had some gorgeously shot locations.
8.5/10
Watched it too. Coen Brothers Started off hilariously and then got progressively darker. The cinematography was truly excellent. My favorite story was the the gold prospector one and least favorite was the last one on the stagecoach.

Can't say I enjoyed Buster Scruggs.
The golddigger and the stagecoach stories were nice though.

I liked the one about the woman and the wagon train the most personally, but that Gold prospector one was easily the best acted. The stagecoach one had the best allegory and was probably the spookiest of all the stories.

Roma actually getting screenings at work next week ffs
Can't wait. Was worried I'd never get to watch it on the big screen because of Netflix, but they're really pushing this one it seems.

Not sure if we're gunna get it in cinemas.
If so, maybe only in Feb.

Pretty sure they're only doing it this week all over the world?
Netflix has never put out movies that are on their platform already iirc.
Don't know if you've got an arthouse cinema where you live. Would be the best place to check out.

You gotta go see it then!
Don’t know if we’ll ever get another shot. And Cuaron has never disappointed me at least. One of the great filmmakers of our time.

Anyone seen Conspiracy (2001)? Watched it probably tenth time, by far the most underrated WW2 movie.

It's 12 Angry Men type of one room movie, creepy considering it should be historically accurate. One of the best movies made for television, which is probably why it's also so unknown.

Buster Scruggs was awesome. An 8.5-9 for me. Only the James Franco one was a bit off imo. Every other short was top stuff. Favourite was the Zoe Kazan one.
- Spoiler:
- The part where the Comanche attacked in the end, just wow. Frightening af.

Those are the best movies of the year? Only heard BlackKinsman because there's a finnish actor in it and the movie about Queen, because he deserves a movie. Pretty far from years like 1994 when we had The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump all the same time.

maybe if you actually watched the movies you would comment something more fruitful?
Besides, there are a lot of good movies out there that don't get considered during awards season, if only you really tried you would know.

And what are those? Bear in mind that I had a movie library consisting almost 4000 movies, before I sold it, and am sick and tired of repeating plots and comic milk?El Gunner wrote:Harmonica wrote:Those are the best movies of the year? Widows was quite a disappointment coming from Steve McQueen. Would have been better off being a mini-series.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Has anyone seen David Lynch's films? I think they are brilliant, but i do have a minor...gripe.
- Movie Spoilers:
- I find it interesting how he basically recycled the same elements in Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire.
i.e.., Character in the threshold of death has a hallucination/dream where he/she tries to come to terms with the pain in their lives and their inevitable death. Experimental dream logic is given context by it being revealed at the end of the film that it was all a "dream" of some sort. All these films also contain postmodernist references to the real world and to the viewer, particularly Lost Highway and Inland Empire, by virtue of how they address the relationship between camera, films, story, viewer, and experience. Twin Peaks, particularly the third season, engages in this thing as well, by questioning reality throughout. It just seems he explores the same territory, with some differences of course. It is all affected by his own interpretations and interests in life, such as transcendental meditation.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I don't mind a director being repetitive when he's the only great contributor to that sort of storytelling. And also, he's done more straightforward stories also, Elephant Man and The Straight Story.
Still need to watch Twin Peaks though.
Find the critics who put Twin Peaks season 3 on their list of favourite movies to be complete imbeciles. Worst kind of idiots out there, and I would've fired them if I owned whatever publicaations they work for.

^^ I get your point. Seen four of his films (Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, Wild at Heart) and I only really enjoyed the first two.

Lol. I assume you say that because you see those people as pretentious and inauthentic?Freeza wrote:I don't mind a director being repetitive when he's the only great contributor to that sort of storytelling. And also, he's done more straightforward stories also, Elephant Man and The Straight Story.

Season 3 is a bit of an acquired taste, and the way it messes with expectations, to the point of purposely disappointing its viewers to make several points, is something i can respect.

Really pretentious. Like the most blatant shit I've seen. Cahiers du Cinéma had them as the no.1 film of last year.
It's just shitting on an entire medium by saying "It's too good to be your medium". There's no valid reason to describe Twin Peaks as anything other than a TV Series. It was released weekly on a god damn TV station, while literally being called "The Return" of something established as a TV show
