Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Interesting so Dick Cheney ran all the back to back operations during Bush's run at the office?

Yeah, I might be alone in the opinion of not liking him as an actor.
Think he's way too over the top in a bad way. But I can see his appeal.
He's certainly out there. And he's either great or horrible, but nothing inbetween, and that's a great feat for an actor.

I'd put him more in the movie star tier of great actors.
Denzel, Brad Pitt, Clooney, Bradley Cooper, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck etc.
But I do enjoy when he goes more different. He has been very straight manninsh in a lot of his roles, but looks like he's evolving. Also a hell of a resume already.

It's worse than any torture porn I've ever seen. It's well made, but I don't like that kind of cringe.
for real?
I promised myself to stay away from teen movies because they cringe me out so much, but then when I see a movie with very good ratings and reviews I always try to reconsider (sometimes I end up liking in case of - Fault in My Stars and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) Sometimes I stay hating it and facepalm myself for watching it.
It pays off in the end, but god damn is it a hard watch for the first hour. Not a repeat viewing
Difference EG is that it's not cringe because it just happens to be a movie about a teenager and there is love involved and yada yada you know the path that can head down.
It's cringe because it tries to be. It tries to paint the painfulness of being socially anxious and awkward during an awkward time in everyone's life, and during an era where phones and social media is actively changing the neurochemistry of up and coming teenagers.
It tries to paint this picture quite blatantly, but also humorously. I think the movie nails it in that respect.
It's absolutely cringey, but to me it was cringey in a funny way, and in a way that reminded me of how awkward I was at the same point. Luckily, smart phones were only just coming out at that time and social media was still relatively new except for Facebook.
Dunno if you've seen it but I would recommend.
What did you think of it Freeza? I loved it. Great debut for Bo Burnham, who I regard as one of the underrated comedians today. Has really come into his own, although sometimes misconstrued due to his earlier work (when he was a teenager...becoming famous on youtube)

I thought it was great. But I didn't find the cringe funny at all. I thought it was like watching a horror film mostly. It was just so real. Reminded me so much of my youth before i lost all that weight and didn't have a lot of friends.
Also the truth or dare scene was horrifying.
But everything came together during one of the last scenes where Josh Hamilton spoke to her. I was in tears like I've not been for a long time. The man should be nominated for an academy award. By far the best supporting performance I've seen this year.

Only watched 1991.
Think it's De Niro's most underrated performance. It's really up there. Soooo good.

One of the few films I've actually got.
Just watched a Danish film at work today about a Danish criminal family in Bodrum in Turkey. Had one of the worst rape scenes I've seen. It was explicit, and you saw her mouth get raped with a prostetic (most likely) dick.
That was horrible to watch. If anyone ever says women can't direct horrible scenes I'll show them that.

Yours symbolises the distances created between the ones you love (or choose to share your life with) and believing in the family business, the dynasty, the legacy, the name over everything else.
Mines symbolises the choice of seeing everything as it really is with a freed mind or the choice of just labouring on with everything you've been told your whole life. Parallel universes of your own limited free-will choosing life gives you.

Cape Fear (1991)
De Niro... Elite performance.
Great film overall. The symbolisms were great. Also the character of Max Cady. Could never tell if he was a psychopath or a vigilante. Or both? or just mentally deranged.
8/10
