I’m biased but I think Caldara is better right now. He’s more aggressive and looks more confident out there. Rugani has great composure but he plays too softly for Allegri’s liking at times which is why he didn’t bench Benatia in the bigger matches last season, before that he played behind Bonucci and Chiellini so a lack of minutes was rational.

They’re both good prospects

Rugani is a fraud because he was hyped as the future of Italy by Juve fans online when he will be lucky to reach the ceiling of Maurizio Domizzi tbh. Just an average player. I say this with 100% conviction having watched him 3 times max.

I just find because he's so passive on the field, his inclusion is rather inconsequential. He neither impresses or is unimpressive most days, he's just there. He makes few mistakes, he's composed, doesn't foul. Just a bit passive for what Allegri wants from his central defenders.

He's like the anti-Benatia

Rugani can be great (come @ me :coffee:

). The talent and reading of the game is clearly there. He just needs to play more, and we may not be able to offer that. At the beginning of the season he was a starter and did great. Then Benatia played his beast level and passed him. Then Benatia regressed later on.

All Rugani needs is confidence and boldness. He had more before than he does now. Needs to play to grow.
