Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
My god what an incompetent manager Deschamps is! A half decent one would've steamrolled this pathetic Argentina team with insane ease.
The same can also be applied to Argentina. I chose them as the dark horse of this competition because I knew they could cause an upset if they were coached properly.
This game has just exposed Deschamps and Sampaoli for the frauds they really are.

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
If u watched the game, Aregntina worst after Aguero on though...
France still is a bit strange, the feeling is they still could have done better than 4-3 vs this Argentina team... but they are on and off, like if they can play at their best they are a very strong team, but like during this game, there were periods when they were so average and others they just explode. Since obviously they are not just Mbappe, or Pogba. Maybe they are too conservative...

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
France's problem is very simple. The second they start to take control of a game they sit back try to slow the game down. Since they're not an elite defensive team ceding control inevitably leads to the opposition getting back into the game.
It's truly awful coaching. They have the best team in the world on paper by a distance but they're wasting it's potential.

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
france got all the creative talent and they chose to play conservative def and counter with semi wasted player.
no doubt an safer way to go further, but that lack of attacking experience will eat them up when they face solid def team.
script all written for ronaldo and portugal to end this farce.

So glad Argentina are out. Otamendi is the literal scum of the earth, and I'd never wish an injury on another player, but I would be very happy if he never played again.

I think it's ridiculous to say that Argentina could not have possibly won this game no matter how they set up, and that we should credit Sampaoli for "making it close".
That's a s stupid a thing as I've ever heard tbh.

Yup
Ricardo Gareca instead of Sampaoli and Argentina would be much better.
Match was lost the moment Messi was played upfront lmao

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
1) never blame a keeper for a penalty unless it's hit right at him and he fumbles it in
2) that second Mbappe goal is not his fault at all
Agreed with the first Mbappe goal though
Sampaoli deserves the lions share of the blame

100% this
The only reason this game was somewhat close was because di Maria scored a worldie out of nowhere and because of a goal that was pure luck.
Even so it wasn't even that close.

I didn't say credit to Sampaoli, I said credit to Argentina. Big difference.
The 4-3 scoreline is very deceptive tbh, it makes it look like had Argentina just improved by a little bit they would've been able to snatch it. And yeah they would've improved significantly if Sampaoli wasn't a moron. Benching Perez, playing with a CF, etc. all would have improved Argentina.
The problem is that the notion that a little improvement would have been enough is nonsense. As zigra said the only reason the game was close was because 2 once in a lifetime goals (one brilliant one lucky) and a header after the game was already won.
So yeah, there is no other way Argentina could have set up that would end with them winning.
Another coach with another squad and a coherent style of play that the team understood, with enough preparation? Maybe, but even then that's only because Deschamps is awful. With the cards Argentina had there was nothing else they could have done which would have ended with them winning.
And the reason I say credit to Argentina even if most of it was luck was because a lot of the players did show impressive resolve and overall it was definitely their best performance of the tournament. So yes the players deserve credit even if Samp doesn't.

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
This game wasn't as close as the score would imply. It's unusual for a team to succeed when a player carries out a coup d'etat and takes over management. They left the best no. 9 at home, they didn't play Dybala, and after watching Messi today, I think Dybala would have had more success.

In what world is Icardi better than Aguero, Higuain, and Dybala?

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | France vs Argentina
congrats to France for a deserved win
F*** Sampaoli for being incompetent
F*** our players for deciding to pick a fight on the 92nd minute rather than try to equalize
F*** AFA for forcing Martino out (I'm sure we would've at least played like a team rather than 11 individualities under him and finished 1st in the group)
