Hierro is not a coach he doesnt know what he is doing, and Spain only worked well in the first game. Spain style requires constant adjustment and instructions and no one is there to provide them.

He was causing some aerial problems, and that looked like the only effective venue of attacking for Russia.

Also, Russia's player's are slipping too much. It's like they are extending themselves beyond their natural abilities.

are you actually asking me to hold the same line of comparison for Asensio with Spain vs Messi with Argentina? is this a serious argument we should waste our time on? nope.

I said yesterday that Messi did not have a good world cup, he had a single moment of genius vs Nigeria, and everything else was a wash.

Of course i understand his team was not good enough, that's why they are out, but even by the standards he played at this season with Barca, he was poor. We are talking about a potential GOAT not asensio, i think the standards to rate him should be slightly higher

Ah now that you said it... I was thinking about a player who could replace Pique. Yeah, that's a terrible decision but for some reason Pique keeps starting for club and country despite being a disgrace. It doesn't really make sense but hey.

we have to be able to talk about both at the same time, the team and the player performance. and i refuse to put Asensio's potential impact on a game at the same scale as Messi's.

If you want to reason why argentina lost and havent won the world cup in the messi's era, then you are right you can point to how disfunctional the team is and has been at times. yet, i also watched the game, and i saw a very lacklustre Messi, far from the standards we usually expect from him.

We have seen dysfunctional teams before reaching greatness because they were being lead by a single great player. Was that too much to expect or ask from Messi? maybe.
