Russia's two starting CBs and best striker (Kokorin) are all out of the tournament due to doing their ACLs, but they are hosts, so anything is possible.
Uruguay are usually slow starters, wouldn't be surprised if Egypt beats them in the first match.
This group could come down to who scores most goals vs. Saudi Arabia.

There would be a bit of favoritism towards Russia

Yeah the hosts always get favouritism. Russia certainly doesn't look like they will be the exception.
Still expect Uruguay to win the group. They aren't what they used to be but they can still do it if Suarez shows up. Suarez and Cavani plus a bunch of defenders/DMs in the team basically.

100%. It's really hard to assess Russia's strength because all their recent friendlies were against superpowers and they lost all...but none of the teams in this group is anywhere near that level.
Uruguay is a strange team, definitely past their peak, but still with great individual quality. Egypt has Salah.
Should be a fun group despite no big teams. Saudi Arabia aside, all other teams are about the same level. Egyptians have been one of the largest ticket buyers for the tournament, there'll be many many of them around...Could be a factor in that opener match vs. Uruguay.
Also, assuming Saudi Arabia are eliminated early, their last match is vs. their political allies Egypt. While no team wants to lose any WC matches even if already eliminated, who knows what could go behind the scene if let's say Egypt needs a 2+ goal win to overcome Russia/Uruguay on goal difference.

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group A (Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay)
What’s up guys new to the forum I don’t think you guys realize that Uruguay called up almost an entirely fresh squad for the World Cup. Torreira vecino Valverde and bentacourt are all young center midfields. Godín Josema just got off a very solid season plus being partners all year will be an advantage most squads won’t have. Coates had a great season for sporting again and is an able substitute. Caceres has had physical injury but is always reliable when called upon. Laxalt was played as a left back against Czech republican and wales and dominates the flank.Stuani just got off a 21 goal season for Girona and Gomez had. 17 goal debut season for celta Vigo. Muslera always preforms for the NT and is adored At Galatasaray. We got rid of most of the old guard and replaced them. Been playing some very defensively disciplined, Decent football when previously we didn’t look comfortable at all with the ball at our feet.
Also what’s up everyone been reading these forums for year know almost everyone by name

You think Federico Valverde will get a lot of playing time? I'm going to try to watch every game he plays in.

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group A (Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay)
I have to admit I wasn't really rating Uruguay until I heard a few opinions on TV and read a little more about their current squad. They have a group to make the most out of. They should be joined by Egypt. Even if Salah cannot play they can galvanize team spirit to see off the hosts who have been in steady decline.

This has to be the worst opening match, only thing that can make it interesting is if a rainbow flag emerges on the stadium

Great first game. Really excited to watch Fahad Al-Muwallad play... one of the early highlights of the tournament.

Not the best national anthem for the home nation. Nothing on Brazil, at least.
