No otherwise we wouldn’t be hyping the game?danyjr wrote:I'm sure it is a pretty good good game, but isn't anyone else tired of the same open world formula? I can't bring myself to play yet another game with 'unlock this region', 'grab that collectable' any more.
The game is not even out and yet again you’re already here moaning. Let’s play the game first and talk if it those parts feel as cliche & repetitive as an AC game.

Seems about the same as the Infamous games.M99 wrote:Reviewing about what I expected. Scores similar to the new AC games. 83-85 on Metacritic.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
Open World games unless they're exceptional in various aspects don't really get above 90 very much anymore.
Mid to late 80s should be expected, honestly from the reviews I've seen I'm really hyped.
Combat seems really fun if you actually use the tools available to you and the exploration seems actually worthwhile.

one of the complaints is that it doesnt add much to the usual open world formula, fortunately I haven't played many open world games this gen so I don't have burnout with 'em

Honestly the reaction regarding open world in this game is so mixed lol.
Some are saying they feel like it's a lot like Breath of the Wild and others think it's generic lol.
From what I've seen i think the exploration looks to be a strong point honestly.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
probably won't be, it did look super off in the trailer I saw but they specifically pointed to it
don't really care
the open world looks so good, gonna do my usual with open world games and explore/progress everything but the main story where possible
hear if you blitz the story its 15-20 hours long, 30-40 if you do side content and 60ish hours for completionists
sounds pretty good to me
probably be the first game I platinum legit in ages (hear its an easy, comfortable plat)

We'll see if it's an issue then. The hours sounds about your usual open world game.
Also loved plat hunting during PS3 era lmao

Blitzing through the story seems an awful idea to me, this game looks at it's best when you just enjoy the combat explore all the hidden stuff within the world.
Jumping through mission to mission seems a waste.

The issue with this seems the fact that Tsushima, as a world, from what I have seen looks dead.
I dont see it holding up as a world compared to more vast and expansive worlds like say Southern California in GTA 5 or even a less populated west in Red Dead 2.
I dont think slowly walking around country sides and randomly chasing birds or the random tanuki as being able to hold you for as long as others unless the world is very different from the promotional materials I have seen.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
Depends how rewarding the exploration is, from what I've seen i think it's a strength of the game.
Maybe I'm wrong but i get the impression that exploration will be what i enjoy the most when I've finished it.

This.
And this is how I squeezed the most out of TW3 and to make up for me not playing the previous ones. Plus their side-missions were better than most open world main ones.
Having not played Tshushima yet is the open world more style than substance? Whats your view on that

I don’t blitz through the story but I also probably won’t exploring every single thing in the world.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Blitzing through the story seems an awful idea to me, this game looks at it's best when you just enjoy the combat explore all the hidden stuff within the world.

I just started it in Samurai Cinema mode. I’m already noticing that it’s out of sync with the animations. Hopefully, it won’t be too noticeable later on.

Obviously that's fine, but if anyone jumps from mission to mission i feel like they will be getting very limited viewpoint of the game overall.

I want to do this but with how colourful the world is it seems not worth it.
It's a nice idea though, i will be playing in Japanese with Subtitles though unless the lip sync is awful.

Agreed, would be a waste to not see the colors. But since its a long open world game I'll probably do a few hours worth of side activities in black and white.

You can play it in black and white like old school Samurai films.
It's a cool idea but to me i don't think i can do it for very long.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
My thoughts so far.
I tried the black and white and honestly normal display mode is better by far. The colors and environment are gorgeous. Playing with Japanese audio and yes at some places lip syncing is indeed off. If you pay attention you will definitely notice it. Btw there's also an option to prioritize either frame rate or resolution which is great.
Reviews seemed to be all over the place regarding gameplay. Some people said its a button masher and others said its quite deep. I inferred from the reviews is that at lower difficulties the game is easy enough that you can just get away with button mashing and not focus enough on parrying, dodging and stances. Well, I started this at moderate but so far I just couldn't get away with button mashing. Combat has been enjoyable and you'll surely die if you just blindly button mash. Unlocked one new stance and two upgrades so expecting it to get even deeper down the line. But yes, stealth is very OP. Most times though I can't resist challenging people to duels like an honorable samurai
Exploration is enhanced a lot by the HUD. Instead of thousand markers and compasses cluttering the screen, wind and animals replace the markers and visually it is very pleasing. I just explored what seems like a small fraction of the first region and I've already discovered lot of question marks. Its definitely gonna be a bloated map overall.
Story and characters are quite generic so far (mind you I'm just in Act 1). But there is this whole side story with like 9 missions which is genuinely great. Been ignoring the story to do that. If the other side missions are of this level then its Witcher 3 esque in side mission quality.
