Yep same, it's different. I'm sure TLOU will be amazing but i expect this game to be more "fresh".

everything i've read makes it look like a GOTG contender, didnt like Second Son from the devs though, hoping the gameplay is GOAT

The episode will be focused entirely on Ghost of Tsushima, coming to PS4 July 17. You’ll get an extended look at new gameplay footage, including exploration, combat and more. The current cut is clocking in around 18 minutes, give or take.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
I'm kind of worried people are going to set expectations that they want Sekiro/Souls style combat when this won't be that.
There's more than one way to do Japanese Feudal combat or combat in general, i couldn't care less personally but i kind of expect people will shit on it when they don't get Souls style combat.

Which one of their games have you played?
I also expect people to shit on it for not being Souls, because a lot of people will undoubtedly go into this game expecting it to be just that.
I wasn’t a big fan of Second Son either. It’s a decent game that doesn’t do anything particularly impressive. It wasn’t bad, but not particularly good either.

All the infamous games.
I thought second son was pretty good tbh. Not as good as infamous 1 n 2 (was hard to surpass it anyways) but the gameplay was really fun.

Ah. All three of them that were set in the same universe
I expect the game to be good, but in terms of user reviews, it will likely get review bombed.

I'm putting Infamous Second Son mehness in comparison to 1 and 2 down to launch title stuff more than anything else.
I have much higher expectations for this and I'll believe they'll be met.

I don't think anyone is expecting this to be like Sekiro or any souls game. It's a Sony game and a sucker punch game. They will not make it punishing as they target every fanbase. If anything there will be an easy mode in it for sure. Expecting it to be completely different focused a lot on free roam and set pieces.
It's their first game in 6 years so i really think they are going to go all out on this one.

I am not sure if suckerpunch wanted to make another infamous game. Could be that Sony asked them to make one for PS4 and they came up with that. It was quite short iirc.

I doubt it will get review bombed, i don't think people will be emotionally invested enough for that to happen.
Will there be complaints when the gameplay is revealed and it's not what they want? Yeah but i don't think that will linger long enough to impact launch.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
Well, in every comment section I’ve read about the game, there’s been people expecting it to be Souls combat, but with a deeper story. Maybe those people are just a minority, but that seems to be a common expectation, for whatever reason.

You underestimate the Souls fanbase on the internet sir, they're very loud and with Sekiro and Nioh being set in Feudal Japan also I'm pretty sure people will have certain expectations.
Of course most well balanced and smart people won't expect that but those people will be drowned out by the people who will want what i described.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
Come to think of it though I'm not sure what combat i expect.
Initially it would have been an Assassin's Creed style combat( before they turned into Witcher rip offs) but it's actually good.
But that combat is way too animation driven with little control given to the player so i don't really expect that either.

Exactly, and this is why it wouldn’t surprise me if it gets review bombed for not being what some people expect it to be. I don’t know why some people would expect Sucker Punch to do Souls- style combat all of a sudden, but I suppose this type of setting has become synonymous with that in recent time. Then again, there are few games with swordplay in them these days, that aren’t inspired by that type of combat.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
There's info on gameplay.
- combat:
- The theme of the combat is “mud, blood, and steel”. They want a feeling of intensity and danger in the combat
Combat system can scale all the way up from a one-on-one combat with a worthy opponent all the way up to dealing with a horde of Mongols
Master the bow to eliminate distant threats with lethal precision
Develop stealth and deception tactics to disorient and ambush enemies with surprise attacks
An adaptive landscape and organic approach to combat makes Tsushima the perfect playground for mixing and matching skills, weapons, and tactics to find the perfect combat blend for your play style
As Jin’s story unfolds, versatility and creativity will become your greatest weapons.
You can customize your katana
They want every swing to feel real, so every hit that connects leave a scar.
There is a progression system. Jin has learned to use a grapple hook but this is not part of his samurai training. He’s had to learn new tricks to silently kill the Mongols
Duels in the game is going to be very narrative base they want to build the tension, each duel will be around some unique element like the red tree
The square button will swing your sword
You can kill an enemy with a single strike from the blade if you hold the triangle button and release it at the right moment
You parry with L1
You can clean your blade with a button
Τhe chain assassinations we seen in the trailer you must hit the button at the right time to go to the next one there is a time period
Assassinations are one of the tactics you can use. There’s a fear factor here. If you do successfully assassinate someone then it stuns the other enemies around you and gives you an opportunity to perform follow-up attacks
You can perform horseback assassinations
Weapons we seen so far, swords, bows, stun/flash bombs and big possibility of more
Where Jin stabs someone though a screen is call the Shoji assassination.
- The World:
- There a lot of stories in the game that you may not find them all.
The game will feature NO waypoints
There are many side characters in the game, most which have sidequests.
Jin will learn new things from NPC quests
Each area in the game has a different theme. That reflects to different stories and narrative themes for each area. The name of the area on the demo is "The forest of no return". Features betrayal stories with darker tone
You will roam vast countrysides, explore billowing fields, and tranquil shrines to ancient forests, villages and stark mountainscapes, bamboo forests to the urban center of ornate castles
They want to give players alot of navigational options ,we seeing horse riding, parkour and Jin swinging with the grappling hook so far
Dynamic time of day and weather , we seeing snow, and rain areas so far
Simulated clouds. All dynamic, not painted, never going to be seen twice
Procedural skies and procedural sun break tech
If you roll around a lot in the mud you will be completely cover. If it starts raining it washes away all the mud and blood
“Movement” is the environment theme, expect everything to move - blowing trees, windy fields, falling leaves
If you see something and you expect to be able to climb on it, then we want you to be able to climb on it
The trailer with Masako from E3 was a side mission
Jin will change what is wearing. In a rain-drenched part of the world Jin has traded his traditional armor for a straw raincoat called a mino. This has both mechanical value and narrative value.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
I know M99, I've read it before but no amount of words can ever accurately portray a games combat and how it feels imo.
I need to at least see it for long stretches, which it sounds like we're getting so all good.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
I'm with Thimmy here. I actually thought for a long time that this was the same game as Sekiro. Then thought it was basically "another Sekiro".
This because I hadn't looked into the game, simply watched a trailer some time ago. I can see people having the same misconception.
I've looked more into it now and it seems great. Also liked Infamous a lot. I won't buy this at release but will probably get it once the price dropped.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
the aesthetic appeals tro me greatly, don't think the visuals are mind blowing, some of the combat animations look clunky
looks like a day 1 for me but I see it being another Horizon, good game, memorable for its year but not a GOTG contender
still, that's pretty kneejerk from me, if the story is great that could certainly elevate it
