Pretty obvious he was kept out last year to win the award this year and to improve their chances of the tank. It was the reasonable thing to do. Let's not act like he was a cripple all year.

Never was a fan of the injured and then being a ROTY contender.

Thought it was even more ridiculous with Embiid last year. To have him in that race when he'd been a NBA player for four year basically.

For the last couple of months sure, but for most of the year he was legitimately injured that's a fact.

I doubt the organisation particularly thinks let's hold him off so he can win ROTY tbh lol, they did it because he already missed most of the season and it was utterly pointless to bring him back when the season was done.

People are acting like he's actively been playing 5 v 5 for a year are absolutely ridiculous and everything else.

It's been the rules since forever, I have no idea why people are suddenly bitching about it now. Especially people acting like he spent an entire 12 months like an NBA player would.

It's just wonderfully stupid logic, it's like complaining about European players who have played professionally for years are not rookies.

I don’t know why pure saying it hasn’t been a problem before. I’ve always thought it was wrong when the players are on their current contract with NBA teams and even as they’ve played unofficial games with teams, as both Simmons and Griffin did.

If Randle could’ve been rookie in his second season it would’ve been less of an advantage because he was injured all year. Simmons was healthy and played with the team for five months before Mitchell was even drafted. That means something.

I’d even give Mitchell the edge over Simmons at this point if they were both rookies. I think what he’s done is more impressive because he seemlessly fit into a new team where he hadn’t played with anyone before. To be the best offensive player in the third seed in the best conference is ridiculous as a rookie. Especially when the team lost their best player and actually got better after. They’ve had the best record in the NBA since they gave him the keys and Gobert came back.
